Departure Lake is a cool lake located in a part of Canada called Ontario. It's in a big area known as the Cochrane District, specifically in Haggart Township. This lake is part of a huge water system that eventually flows into James Bay. It's pretty easy to find, about 2.8 kilometers south of a small community also named Departure Lake, right off Ontario Highway 11.

Departure Lake is found in the Cochrane District in Northeastern Ontario, Canada. It's in a geographic area called Haggart Township. The lake is quite close to a small community that shares its name, Departure Lake, which is located right on Ontario Highway 11.
How Does Water Flow Through the Lake?
The main river that flows into and out of Departure Lake is the Poplar Rapids River. This river enters the lake from the south side. After passing through Departure Lake, the Poplar Rapids River then flows out from the north side.
This river is part of a larger water journey. The Poplar Rapids River eventually joins the Mattagami River. The Mattagami River then flows into the Moose River. Finally, the Moose River empties into James Bay. This whole system is called the James Bay drainage basin.
What Can You Do at Departure Lake?
There's a nice spot for visitors on the north shore of Departure Lake. It's a picnic area where you can relax and enjoy the scenery. You can reach this picnic area by taking North Access Road. This road leads south from Ontario Highway 11 at the community of Departure Lake. It's a perfect place for a family outing or a quiet break by the water.
