Des Arc is a small village located in Iron County, Missouri, in the United States. In 2020, about 131 people lived there. It is a quiet place with an interesting history.
History of Des Arc
Des Arc was officially started in 1871. People have different ideas about how it got its name. Some say "Des Arc" means "the bend" in French. This might refer to a big bend in the railroad tracks near the village.
However, the State Historical Society of Missouri thinks the name might come from "aux arcs." This phrase is also linked to how the Ozarks region got its name. A post office has been open in Des Arc since 1871.
