About Devils Lake

Devils Lake is an important natural feature in Lincoln City. It offers a place for people to enjoy nature and water activities. The lake's size and depth make it suitable for various uses.

Where is Devils Lake?

Devils Lake is found right along the beautiful Oregon Coast. It acts as a natural boundary for parts of Lincoln City. The lake's location makes it a popular spot for both locals and visitors. Its waters eventually flow into the Pacific Ocean through the D River.

What's in a Name?

The name "Devils Lake" comes from an old Native American legend. According to the story, a very large creature sometimes appeared on the lake's surface. This creature could be a giant fish, a huge octopus, or another big sea animal. Its appearance would often surprise anyone who was fishing nearby. This legend gave the lake its unique name.

Keeping the Lake Healthy

Devils Lake is cared for by a group called the Devils Lake Water Improvement District. Another important organization is the Preservation Association of Devils Lake (PADL), which started in 1982.

PADL's main goal is to protect and improve the lake's water and natural features. They work to prevent pollution and misuse of the lake. Their mission also includes making sure Devils Lake remains a great place for fun and beautiful scenery. They want to keep it a valuable asset for the entire Lincoln City area for many years to come.
