Dillon Brooks (born January 22, 1996) is a Canadian professional basketball player. He plays for the Phoenix Suns in the National Basketball Association (NBA).
Before joining the NBA, he played college basketball for the Oregon Ducks. There, he was named an All-American and the best player in his conference in 2017. Brooks was chosen in the 2017 NBA draft. He started his career with the Memphis Grizzlies. In 2023, he was named to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team for his great defense.
In 2023, Brooks helped the Canada national team win a bronze medal at the FIBA Basketball World Cup. He was also named the Best Defensive Player of that tournament.

College Basketball Journey
Dillon Brooks is a small forward from Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. He attended the University of Oregon for college. Before that, he played high school basketball at Father Henry Carr Catholic Secondary School in Toronto and Findlay Prep in Henderson, Nevada.
As a freshman, he scored about 11.5 points per game. He was also named to the Pac-12 Conference all-freshman team. In his second year, Brooks helped the Ducks win the regular season title in the Pac-12 Conference. They also became one of the top ten teams in the country.
At the end of that season, he was named first-team All-Pac-12. He was also recognized as a third-team All-American by the Sporting News. Brooks averaged 16.7 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game that year.
Brooks decided to stay at Oregon for his third season. He played three seasons in college. During this time, he averaged 14.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game. After the 2016–17 season, he decided to enter the 2017 NBA draft. This ended his successful college basketball career.
Professional Basketball Career
Time with the Memphis Grizzlies (2017–2023)
Brooks was picked by the Houston Rockets in the 2017 NBA draft. He was the 45th player chosen overall. Right after being drafted, he was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies. On October 18, 2017, Brooks played his first NBA game. He scored 19 points, which was the most points ever scored by a Canadian player in their NBA debut.
On April 11, 2018, Brooks had a great game, scoring 36 points. In December 2018, there was some confusion during a trade discussion. The Grizzlies did not intend to trade Dillon Brooks, but another player with a similar name.
Brooks started the 2019–20 season as the Grizzlies' starting shooting guard. He played very well, averaging 16.1 points per game. Because of his strong performance, he signed a new contract with the Grizzlies in February 2020.
On May 23, 2021, Brooks played in his first NBA playoff game. He scored 31 points, helping the Grizzlies win against the Utah Jazz. In December 2021, he scored a career-high 37 points in a game against the Portland Trail Blazers. At the end of the 2022–23 season, Brooks was named to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team. This was his first time receiving such an honor.
Playing for the Houston Rockets (2023–2025)
On July 8, 2023, Brooks joined the Houston Rockets as part of a trade. He made his debut for the Rockets on October 26, scoring 14 points. On February 14, 2024, Brooks achieved a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds.
On January 27, 2025, Brooks had an amazing game. He made 10 three-pointers, which was a career-high for him. It was also a record for the Rockets team. He scored 36 points in that game, helping his team win against the Boston Celtics.
Joining the Phoenix Suns (2025–present)
On July 6, 2025, Dillon Brooks was traded to the Phoenix Suns. This trade involved seven teams. He joined the Suns along with Jalen Green.
Playing for Team Canada
Brooks has also played for the Canadian national team. In 2015, he helped the team win a silver medal at the Pan American Games.
In 2022, Brooks committed to playing for the Canadian national team for three years. Their goal was to qualify for the Olympic basketball tournament. They achieved this goal at the 2023 FIBA World Cup. Canada won the bronze medal, which was their first global tournament medal in basketball since 1936. Brooks played a very important role in this success. He scored 39 points in their victory over the United States. This was a new scoring record for a Canadian player at the World Cup. Brooks was also named the Best Defensive Player of the tournament by FIBA.
He was selected to play for Canada at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
