Dillon Brooks is a small forward from Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. He went to the University of Oregon for college. Before that, he played high school basketball at Father Henry Carr Catholic Secondary School in Toronto and Findlay Prep in Henderson, Nevada.

Freshman Year Success

As a freshman at Oregon, Brooks scored about 11.5 points per game. He was chosen for the Pac-12 Conference all-freshman team. This showed he was one of the best new players in the conference.

Leading the Ducks

In his second year, Brooks helped the Ducks win the Pac-12 Conference regular season title. The team also became one of the top ten teams in the country. He was named first-team All-Pac-12 and a third-team All-American. He averaged 16.7 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game.

Brooks decided to stay at Oregon for his third season. He had a foot injury in the summer of 2016, but he was still named to the Associated Press' preseason All-America team. Over his three years in college, Brooks averaged 14.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game. After the 2016–17 season, he decided to enter the 2017 NBA draft, ending his college career.

Professional Basketball Journey

Memphis Grizzlies (2017–2023)

Dillon Brooks was picked by the Houston Rockets in the 2017 NBA draft. He was the 45th player chosen overall. Right after being drafted, he was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies. On July 21, 2017, the Grizzlies officially signed him to his first professional contract.

NBA Debut and Early Career

Brooks made his NBA debut on October 18, 2017. He scored 19 points, which was the most points ever by a Canadian player in their first NBA game. On April 11, 2018, he scored a career-high 36 points in a game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

In December 2018, there was some confusion during a possible trade. The Grizzlies were trying to trade a player named MarShon Brooks, but other teams thought they were trading Dillon Brooks because their names were similar. The trade didn't happen because of this mix-up.

Injuries and New Contract

On January 5, 2019, Brooks injured his right big toe and had surgery. He missed the rest of the 2018–19 season while recovering.

Brooks started the 2019–20 season as the Grizzlies' starting shooting guard. He played very well, averaging 16.1 points per game in the first half of the season. Because of his strong play, he signed a new three-year contract with the Grizzlies on February 5, 2020. On February 28, 2020, he scored a season-high 32 points against the Sacramento Kings.

Playoff Appearances

On May 23, 2021, Brooks played in his first NBA playoff game. He scored a season-high 31 points to help the Grizzlies win Game 1 against the top-seeded Utah Jazz. The Grizzlies eventually lost that series in five games.

In October 2021, Brooks missed a few weeks due to a hand injury. On December 19, he scored a new career high of 37 points against the Portland Trail Blazers. In January 2022, he sprained his left ankle and was out for several weeks.

During the 2022 playoffs, Brooks was involved in a play that resulted in a serious foul. He was suspended for one game because of it. At the end of the 2022–23 season, Brooks was recognized for his defense. He was named to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team for the first time.

Houston Rockets (2023–Present)

On July 8, 2023, Dillon Brooks joined the Houston Rockets. He was part of a special trade agreement. He made his Rockets debut on October 26, scoring 14 points. On February 14, 2024, Brooks had a "double-double" (meaning he got at least 10 in two different stats) with 19 points and 10 rebounds against his former team, the Memphis Grizzlies.

They achieved this goal at the 2023 FIBA World Cup. Canada won the bronze medal, which was their first global tournament medal in basketball since 1936! Brooks played a very important role in this success. He scored 39 points in their victory over the United States, setting a new scoring record for a Canadian player at the World Cup. Because of his amazing defense, Brooks was named the Best Defensive Player of the tournament by FIBA.

He was also chosen to be on Canada's team for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
