Dinky Bingham's Life and Music Journey
Dinky Bingham grew up in Jamaica, a part of Queens, New York. His father was a preacher. Now, Dinky lives in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
He started his music career in 1982. He played piano and sang at a new music studio called Phonogram. There, he recorded songs for a project called White Soul with jazz artists. In 1985, he joined a Christian music group called New Witness.
Joining The Jamaica Boys
A few years later, Dinky got a big opportunity. He joined a popular funk band from Queens called The Jamaïca Boys. He became the lead singer, replacing Mark Stevens. Other famous musicians in the band were Marcus Miller and Lenny White. The group had popular songs like "Move It" and "Shake It Up." After a while, the band stopped making music together.
Becoming a Top Producer
After The Jamaïca Boys, Dinky Bingham became a full-time music producer. This means he helps other artists make their songs sound great and record them.
He is the CEO of his own company, Dinky B. Music, which is based in Philadelphia. This company helps produce and publish music. Dinky has produced many very successful songs and albums. These are called "gold" and "platinum" hits because they sold so many copies!
He has worked with famous artists like Changing Faces, New Edition, Kylie Minogue, and Jaheim. He also created special versions of songs, called "remixes," for artists like Chaka Khan, Zhané, Paula Abdul, and Bobby Brown.
Dinky Bingham also worked as the musical director for the R&B group Guy. He has also helped many young hip-hop and R&B producers learn the ropes, like Supa Dave West, Rockwilder, and Jimi Kendrix.
Family Life
Dinky Bingham married his wife, Sonja, in 1997. They have three sons and two daughters. One of his daughters, Elizabeth "Yummy" Bingham, is also a singer and songwriter!
