Discovering the Dominguez Hills

Location and Neighbors

The Dominguez Hills are found in the southern part of Los Angeles County, California. They sit between two other well-known areas: the Baldwin Hills and the Palos Verdes Peninsula. Imagine them as a small, gentle rise in the landscape of this busy region.

The Story Behind the Name

These hills are named after an important local family from long ago. This family was led by Manuel Dominguez. His family were among the early Californios, which were people of Spanish descent who lived in California before it became part of the United States. The Dominguez family owned a very large piece of land called Rancho San Pedro. This rancho was a huge ranch that covered much of the area where the hills are today. Naming the hills after them was a way to honor their historical importance in the region.
