Domènec Fita i Molat (1927–2020) was a famous Spanish artist. He studied art in different schools, but his work became more modern over time. He created many types of art, including paintings, drawings, and sculptures.
Fita also worked with stained glass, ceramics, and even concrete. He used many materials like stone, iron, and wood. His art was very varied and often abstract. He liked to combine art with buildings and public spaces. You can see his large artworks in famous places like the Sagrada Família in Barcelona. His art is also in cathedrals in Girona and Vic, and the monastery of Montserrat.
About Domènec Fita
Domènec Fita was born in Girona, Spain, on August 10, 1927. He later moved to Santa Pau as a baby.
From 1932 to 1939, he attended the House Education and Assistance of Girona. There, he studied using the Montessori system. During the war, he also went to other schools in Girona.
He began learning art from Joan Carrera. Fita studied sculpture and drawing at the School of Arts and Crafts in Olot. He also took classes at the School of Fine Arts in Girona. Later, he studied sculpture, painting, drawing, and engraving in Barcelona. He earned a degree as a Professor of Drawing.
In the early 1950s, Fita traveled to Paris and other places. This was possible because he won three art grants.
In 1953, he had a serious accident while painting a mural. He was in the hospital for three years and became unable to move his legs.
He settled in Sarrià de Ter, Girona, to live and work. In 1958, he married Àngela Rodeja i López. He also taught art at the Bell-lloc Institute in Girona. In 1969, he moved to Montjuic, Girona, where he lived until he passed away.
From 1969 to 1976, he taught art history at the General Study of Girona. He also opened his own art studio. Many students came from all over Catalonia to learn from him. About 65 of his students later went on to study at fine arts colleges.
In 1984, he became a member of the Royal Catalan Academy of Fine Arts of Saint George.
Fita wanted to make sure his art would be remembered. So, in 2000, he and his wife created the Fita Fita Foundation. This foundation helps to share his art and ideas.
In 2006, he received the Cross of St. George. This is a very important award from the Catalan government. In 2011, he received an honor medal from the University of Girona.
By the year 2000, Fita had shown his art in 109 solo exhibitions. He also participated in 405 group exhibitions. He created 380 artworks for different clients.
Domènec Fita passed away on November 9, 2020.
