Donald Earl Davis Jr., born on December 17, 1972, is a former American football player. He played as a linebacker in the National Football League (NFL). Before joining the NFL, he played college football for the Kansas Jayhawks. After his playing career, he became a team chaplain for the New England Patriots.

Early Life and High School Sports

Don Davis grew up in Olathe, Kansas. He went to Olathe South High School. There, he was a talented athlete. He played football, basketball, and ran track and field. In his senior year of football, he was chosen as a top player in his league.

College Football Journey

Davis played college football at the University of Kansas. He was a starter for three years. During his time there, he made 238 tackles and 9.5 sacks. A tackle is when a player stops an opponent with the ball. A sack is when a defensive player tackles the quarterback behind the line of scrimmage. Don graduated in 1995 with a degree in Human Development.

Playing in the NFL

After college, Don Davis joined the NFL. He was signed by the New Orleans Saints in 1996. He played with the Saints until 1998. Then, he was traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He stayed with the Buccaneers until 2000.

In 2001, Davis began playing for the St. Louis Rams. He played with the Rams through the 2002 season. In 2003, Davis signed with his final team, the New England Patriots. He played with the Patriots for four seasons. He won two Super Bowl championships with the New England Patriots. These wins were in 2003 and 2004.

Life After Football

After the 2006 season, Davis retired from playing football. He then joined the Patriots' coaching staff. He worked as an assistant strength and conditioning coach. He left this role before the 2008 season. He wanted to focus on Christian ministry. He continued to work with the Patriots as the team chaplain. Today, he is the Chief Player Officer for the National Football League Players Association.
