Donald Earl Davis Jr. (born December 17, 1972) is a former American football player. He was a talented linebacker who played for several teams in the NFL. Don is especially known for winning two Super Bowl championships with the New England Patriots. After his playing career, he also served as the team chaplain for the Patriots.
Don Davis's Early Life
Don Davis grew up in Olathe, Kansas. He went to Olathe South High School. There, he was a star athlete in many sports. He played football, basketball, and was on the track and field team. In his senior year of high school football, he was chosen as a top player in his league.
College Football Years
After high school, Don went to the University of Kansas. He played football for the Kansas Jayhawks. He was a starting player for three years. During his college career, he made 238 tackles. He also had 9.5 sacks, which means he tackled the opposing team's quarterback behind the line of scrimmage. Don graduated from college in 1995. He earned a degree in Human Development.
Playing in the NFL
Don Davis started his professional football career in 1996. He was signed by the New Orleans Saints. He played with the Saints for a few seasons. Later, he joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1998. He stayed with them until the year 2000.
In 2001, Don moved to the St. Louis Rams. He played for the Rams for two seasons. His final team was the New England Patriots, starting in 2003. He played with the Patriots for four seasons. With the Patriots, Don achieved a major goal for many football players. He won two Super Bowl rings! These were for the 2003 and 2004 seasons.
Life After Football
After the 2006 season, Don Davis decided to retire from playing football. He then joined the Patriots' coaching staff. He worked as an assistant strength and conditioning coach. This meant he helped players get stronger and stay in shape.
Later, Don left coaching to focus on Christian ministry. He continued to be involved with the Patriots team. He served as their team chaplain.
