Donaldson Mountain is a cool mountain found in Franklin County, New York. It stands tall at 4,108 feet (1,252 meters) above sea level! This mountain is part of the Seward Mountains, which are a group of peaks within the larger Adirondacks.

The mountain got its name in 1924. It was named after a writer named Alfred Lee Donaldson. He wrote an important book called A History of the Adirondacks.

About Donaldson Mountain

Donaldson Mountain is surrounded by other interesting peaks. To its northeast, you'll find Seward Mountain. To the south, it's next to Mount Emmons. These mountains are all part of the beautiful Adirondack range.

Where is Donaldson Mountain?

This mountain is located in a special protected area. It's part of the High Peaks Wilderness Area. This wilderness area is inside the huge Adirondack State Park. This park is a very large protected area in New York. It's a great place for nature and outdoor adventures.

Water Flowing from the Mountain

Rain and melting snow from Donaldson Mountain travel in interesting ways. All the water that flows off the mountain eventually reaches the Raquette River. This river is quite long!

The Raquette River then flows north into Canada. It eventually empties into the mighty Saint Lawrence River. From there, the water makes its way to the Gulf of Saint Lawrence, which is part of the Atlantic Ocean.

Different sides of Donaldson Mountain send their water to different streams. For example, water from the southeast side flows into Seward Brook. This brook then joins the Cold River. The Cold River is a smaller river that flows into the Raquette River.

Water from the southwest side of Donaldson Mountain goes into Boulder Brook. This brook also flows into the Cold River. Finally, water from the northwest side of the mountain drains into Calkins Brook, which flows directly into the Raquette River. It's like a network of tiny rivers starting from the mountain!
