Donté Dominic Greene (born February 21, 1988) is an American former professional basketball player. He played college basketball for the Syracuse Orange for one year. After that, he was chosen by the Memphis Grizzlies in the 2008 NBA draft. He was the 28th player picked overall.

Donté Greene's Early Life
Greene was born in Munich, Germany, on a United States Air Force Base. His mother worked for the National Security Agency. In the mid-1990s, his parents divorced. Greene then lived in Japan and later in Germany. He eventually moved to Hanover, Pennsylvania. In October 2001, Greene's mother passed away. He then moved to Woodlawn, Baltimore County, Maryland with his father and brother.
Playing for Team USA
Greene was chosen for the 2006 USA Men's U18 National Team. He helped the team win a gold medal. This happened at the 2006 FIBA Americas U18 Championship in San Antonio, Texas.
He was also a 2007 McDonald's All-American player. He was named Maryland's 2007 Gatorade Player of the Year. Experts ranked him as one of the top recruits in his class.
Greene finished high school in 2007 at Towson Catholic High School. In his senior year, he scored about 18 points per game. He also helped his team win two championships.
Greene played for Team USA again in 2007. This was for the USA Basketball U19 World Championships. The team won a silver medal. They lost to Serbia in the final game.
College Basketball Journey
In his first year of college, Greene played for Syracuse. He started all 35 games. He was the top scorer for Syracuse, averaging 17.7 points per game. He also grabbed 7.2 rebounds per game.
Greene was the first Syracuse freshman since Carmelo Anthony to lead the team in scoring. He also set a new record for three-pointers by a freshman. He made 90 three-pointers in one season. Greene also led Syracuse with 57 blocks. He was named to the Big East All-Rookie Team.
He scored 19 points and had 13 rebounds in a win against Seton Hall. Greene also scored a season-high 27 points in a game against Robert Morris.
After his freshman year, Greene decided to enter the NBA draft.
Professional Basketball Career
Starting in the NBA
The Memphis Grizzlies picked Greene as the 28th player in the 2008 NBA draft. This pick came from a trade with the Los Angeles Lakers. Memphis later traded Greene to the Houston Rockets.
Greene signed with the Rockets in July 2008. He scored 40 points in his first summer league game. This was a great start! On August 14, 2008, Greene was traded to the Sacramento Kings.
In January 2009, Greene was sent to the Reno Bighorns. This team is part of the NBA Development League. He was the first player the Kings ever sent to the D-League. In his first game with Reno, he scored 26 points. He was called back to the Kings just a few days later.
Playing Around the World
After his time with the Kings, Greene played for many teams. He played in Puerto Rico for the Atléticos de San Germán in 2013. He briefly rejoined the Memphis Grizzlies for the end of the 2013 season.
In August 2013, he was traded to the Boston Celtics. He later signed with the Dongguan Leopards in China. He even scored 41 points in a game against the New Zealand Breakers.
Greene continued his career playing in different countries. He played for Al-Nasr and Al Sharjah in Dubai. In 2016, he played for Ohud Medina in Saudi Arabia.
He also played in the Dominican Republic for the Leones de Santo Domingo. He helped them win the LNB Championship. Greene also played in Puerto Rico again for the Capitanes de Arecibo. He later played in Lebanon for Sporting Al Riyadi Beirut and Champville SC.
In 2020, he joined Al-Ahli Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. In 2021, he played for Ezzahra Sports in Tunisia. He also played for Club San Carlos in the Dominican Republic.
The Basketball Tournament
In the summer of 2017, Greene played in The Basketball Tournament (TBT). This tournament is shown on ESPN. He played for Boeheim's Army, a team made of former Syracuse University basketball players. He averaged 14 points per game. He helped his team reach the Semifinal Round. They lost to the champions, Overseas Elite. Greene also played one game for Boeheim's Army in 2016.
