Donte Rakeem Moncrief, born on August 6, 1993, is a former professional football player. He played as a wide receiver in the National Football League (NFL). Donte played college football for the Ole Miss Rebels. The Indianapolis Colts chose him in the third round of the 2014 NFL draft. He retired from football in February 2023.

Donte Moncrief's Early Life
Donte Moncrief grew up in Raleigh, Mississippi. He went to Raleigh High School. During his senior year, he caught 21 passes for 441 yards. He also scored 9 touchdowns. Donte also played quarterback sometimes, throwing for 365 yards. He ran the ball 12 times for 144 yards.
High School Football Skills
Moncrief was also a great special teams player. He returned two punts for touchdowns. On defense, he made 48 tackles. He also had four interceptions, which means he caught the ball when the other team threw it.
Track and Field Achievements
Besides football, Donte was a talented track & field athlete. He was one of the best long jumpers in his state. He won two state championships in the long jump. His best jump was 7.76 meters (about 25 feet, 1.5 inches). Experts thought he was one of the top wide receiver players in the country.
College Football Career
Donte Moncrief went to the University of Mississippi from 2011 to 2013. While playing for the Ole Miss Rebels, he was a very productive receiver. He caught 156 passes during his college career. These catches gained him 2,371 yards. He also scored 20 touchdowns for his team.
Deciding to Go Pro
On January 3, 2014, Donte Moncrief made a big announcement. He decided to leave college a year early. This meant he would enter the 2014 NFL draft to become a professional player.
Professional Football Journey

Playing for the Indianapolis Colts
The Colts officially signed Donte to his first professional contract on May 30, 2014.
First NFL Touchdown
On October 26, 2014, Donte scored his first NFL touchdown. It was in a game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The pass came from quarterback Andrew Luck. Later that season, in Week 13, Donte had a fantastic game. He caught 3 passes for 134 yards and 2 touchdowns. This helped the Colts win against the Washington Redskins 49–27. He finished his first year with 32 catches for 444 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Later Seasons with the Colts
In 2015, Donte had his best year with the Colts. He caught 64 passes for 733 yards and scored six touchdowns. The next year, in 2016, he missed some games due to injuries. He had a shoulder sprain and a hamstring issue. Even with injuries, he still managed to catch seven touchdowns. In 2017, Donte had fewer catches. This was partly because of his own injuries. Also, his quarterback, Andrew Luck, missed the entire season.
Time with the Jacksonville Jaguars
On March 15, 2018, Donte Moncrief signed a one-year contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars. In Week 4, he had a great game against the New York Jets. He caught five passes for 109 yards and scored a touchdown. He finished the 2018 season with 48 catches for 668 yards and three touchdowns.
Moving to the Pittsburgh Steelers
Donte Moncrief signed a two-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers on March 14, 2019. He played his first game with the Steelers in Week 1 against the New England Patriots. In that game, he caught 3 passes for 7 yards. However, he was released by the Steelers on November 2, 2019. He had only four catches for 18 yards in five games with the team.
Short Stays with Other Teams
After leaving the Steelers, Donte was picked up by the Carolina Panthers on November 4, 2019. He played in three games for them before being released on December 6, 2019.
In 2020, Donte had tryouts with the San Francisco 49ers and the New York Jets.
With the New York Jets
On August 31, 2020, Moncrief signed with the Jets. He was released a few days later but then signed to their practice squad. A practice squad is where players train with the team but are not on the main roster. He was later released from the practice squad in October.
Playing for the New England Patriots
On November 4, 2020, the New England Patriots signed Donte to their practice squad. He was moved up to the main team for two games in November. After each game, he went back to the practice squad. In a game against the Arizona Cardinals, he had a 53-yard kick return. On December 5, 2020, he was officially signed to the Patriots' active roster.
Final Stop with the Houston Texans
Donte Moncrief signed a one-year contract with the Houston Texans on March 22, 2021. However, he was released by the Texans on July 27, 2021.
Retirement from Football
On February 18, 2023, Donte Moncrief announced that he was retiring from professional football. He had a career total of 205 receptions for 2,576 yards and 21 touchdowns.
