Life and Music Career

Growing Up and Starting Music (1986–2005)

Oladipo Omishore grew up in Brooklyn, New York City. His family comes from Nigeria, and they are part of the Yoruba tribe. His parents always supported his love for music. When he was seven, his father sent him to the Brooklyn Music School. There, he took piano lessons.

Even though he liked playing the guitar more, learning the keyboard helped him a lot later. It was useful when he started producing music. He studied electrical engineering at Polytechnic Institute of New York University. He also played on the university basketball team. He finished college in 2008.

Early Career and Working with Kid Cudi (2006–2009)

Dot da Genius began his career in music mixing in 2003. He used a program called FL Studio at New York University. In 2004, he set up a music studio in his basement. His parents bought him the equipment. He called this studio "Head Banga Muzik Studios."

As his production work became popular, he moved to a bigger place. This new place was the Brewery Recording Studio. In May 2009, he teamed up with Andrew Krivonos, who owned the Brewery Recording Studio. They moved the studio to a new building in North Brooklyn.

Dot da Genius and Kid Cudi first met in 2006. They lived together for two years. They both enjoyed working together on music projects. "Day 'n' Nite" became their biggest hit song. Dot da Genius made the beats, and Kid Cudi rapped and sang.

He produced "Day 'n' Nite" in his Head Banga Muzik Studios. He used different ways to mix the sounds for the song. The song was finished in just two days in 2007. It became very popular two years later, in 2009. "Day 'n' Nite" reached the top three in both the United States and the United Kingdom.

Forming the Band WZRD (2010–2018)

WZRD is an alternative rock band formed by Dot da Genius and Kid Cudi. Kid Cudi sings, and Dot da Genius handles the music production. Their first album, also called WZRD, came out in February 2012.

They got ideas for their album from bands like Nirvana and Pink Floyd. They recorded many songs on their tour bus or in Kid Cudi's studio. The album did not use any bad language. WZRD was released on February 28, 2012. It sold over 70,000 copies in its first week. Even though Kid Cudi felt the album wasn't promoted well, it reached number three on the music sales chart.

Solo Work and Recent Hits (2018–present)

In 2018, Dot da Genius and Woodro Skillson signed James Japan to their company, HeadBanga Muzik Group.

In 2019, Dot da Genius helped produce the popular song "Panini" by Lil Nas X. This song reached number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

In 2020, Dot da Genius had his first number-one hit song on the Billboard Hot 100. This was with "The Scotts," a song by Kid Cudi and Travis Scott. The song went straight to the top of the US chart.

On June 24, 2022, Dot da Genius released "Talk About Me." This was the first song from his upcoming solo album. The song features Kid Cudi, Denzel Curry, and JID. In July 2022, Complex magazine interviewed Dot da Genius about his new album.
