Dunlow is a small community in Wayne County, West Virginia, United States. It is not an official town anymore, but it sits along a stream called Twelvepole Creek.
History of Dunlow
Dunlow was first planned as a railroad town in 1892. It was built along the Ohio Extension of the Norfolk and Western Railway. Dunlow became an official town in 1892.
However, the railroad line that went through Dunlow closed down in the early 1930s. Because of this, Dunlow is now an "unincorporated community." This means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does.
In the year 2000, about 1,105 people lived in Dunlow. By 2009, the population was listed as 961 people.
Unusual Wildlife Sightings
Dunlow is known for some interesting stories about wildlife. People have reported seeing black panthers and other animals that look like they belong in a jungle.
There's a rumor that these animals might have come from a circus train. The story says that a circus train derailed, or went off its tracks, in the mid-1940s. Several jungle animals supposedly escaped and were never found. This is believed to be the source of the unusual sightings in the area.
