Crum in Books and Audio
A novel called Crum was written by Lee Maynard, who used to live in the community. The book tells a fictional story about what life might have been like in Crum during the 1950s.
When the book came out in 1988, some people in Crum were upset. They felt that Maynard's descriptions of the community were not fair. Even though the book had a note saying it was a fictional story (except for the town's name), some residents believed that the characters and events were based on real people and happenings.
Over time, the book became very popular and is now seen as a "cult classic" by many. Original copies of Crum were once sold for a lot of money online. The book was re-released in 2001 by West Virginia University Press, making it easier for more people to read. In 2006, actor and producer Ross Ballard helped create an audio version of the book.
