Dutton is a small town in Jackson County, Alabama, United States. It officially became a town in 1963. In 2020, about 330 people lived there. Dutton is located on top of a place called Sand Mountain.

History of Dutton

Dutton was started in 1888. At first, it had many different names like "Press," "Barnes," "Callahan," and "Fern Hill." In 1896, the U.S. Postal Service asked the town to pick one permanent name. The people chose "Dutton" to honor a well-known local businessman.

Geography of Dutton

Dutton is located at 34°36′28″N 85°54′56″W / 34.60778°N 85.91556°W / 34.60778; -85.91556. The town is found along State Route 71. It sits between the towns of Section and Pisgah. Dutton is also near the western edge of Sand Mountain.

The U.S. Census Bureau says that Dutton covers an area of about 0.9 square miles (2.3 square kilometers). All of this area is land.
