Dwight Larte Lowery (born January 23, 1986) is an American former professional football player. He played as a safety in the National Football League (NFL). The New York Jets chose him in the fourth round of the 2008 NFL draft. Before that, he played college football for the San Jose State Spartans.

Dwight Lowery's Early Life and Sports
Dwight Lowery grew up in Santa Cruz, California. He went to Soquel High School there. In high school, he was a great running back for the Knights.
High School Football Achievements
During his senior year, Lowery set a school record. He scored 25 touchdowns in one season. In one game, he scored 7 touchdowns! He did this by running, catching, and even returning an interception. He was also an All-League defensive back for two years. He had 20 interceptions in 20 games.
Playing Basketball in High School
Lowery also played basketball in high school. He was a starter on the varsity team for three years. In his junior year, he was named the league's MVP. He helped his team reach the Central Coast Section Playoffs.
Dwight Lowery's College Football Journey
Before playing for San Jose State, Lowery attended Cabrillo College. He played as a Free Safety and on special teams for the Seahawks.
Success at Cabrillo College
In his first year at Cabrillo College, Lowery was named an All-State defensive back. He led California with 9 interceptions. His second season was cut short by a hand injury. Even so, he still managed to get four more interceptions. He left Cabrillo with 13 interceptions in just 15 games. In 2004, he also led the state in return yards.
Playing for San Jose State University

Lowery became a two-time All-America selection at San Jose State University. He was a top cornerback there. In 2006, he led the entire nation with 9 interceptions. In his senior year (2007), he had 4 interceptions. He was also named to the All-WAC team.
After the 2006 season, Lowery thought about joining the NFL draft early. But he decided to stay for his senior year in 2007. In a special post-season game called the 83rd East–West Shrine Game, Lowery made 2 interceptions.
Awards and Honors in College

Dwight Lowery's Professional Football Career
Dwight Lowery was known for his skills and ability to play different positions. This made the New York Jets interested in him.
Starting with the New York Jets
The Jets drafted Lowery in the fourth round of the 2008 NFL draft. He was the 113th player chosen overall. He was drafted as a cornerback and safety. Lowery played his first NFL game against the Miami Dolphins. He had four tackles and three passes defended. He was even named to the NFL's mid-season all-rookie team. Later in 2008, he continued to improve as a backup player.
In 2009, Lowery kept contributing as a backup. He finished the season with 24 tackles, 9 passes defended, and 3 interceptions. In 2010, Lowery scored his first career touchdown. He intercepted a pass from Brett Favre, which helped the Jets win against the Vikings.
Playing for the Jacksonville Jaguars
On September 3, 2011, Lowery was traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars. In his very first game with Jacksonville, he intercepted a pass from Matt Hasselbeck. This helped the Jaguars win the game.
In March 2012, Lowery signed a four-year contract extension with the Jaguars. However, his 2012 season ended early due to an injury. During a game in 2012, a fan ran onto the field. Lowery tackled the fan. His 2013 season also ended early due to an injury.
Time with the Atlanta Falcons and Indianapolis Colts
Lowery signed with the Atlanta Falcons in April 2014. He helped improve the Falcons' defense that year. He did a great job replacing their previous free safety. In April 2015, Lowery signed with the Indianapolis Colts.
Joining the San Diego Chargers
On March 9, 2016, Lowery signed a three-year contract with the San Diego Chargers. He was brought in to fill the spot left by a great safety named Eric Weddle. Lowery was released by the Chargers in September 2017.
