Dwight Larte Lowery (born January 23, 1986) is a former American football player. He played as a safety in the National Football League (NFL). The New York Jets picked him in the fourth round of the 2008 NFL draft. Before joining the NFL, he played college football for the San Jose State Spartans.

Early Life and High School Sports
Dwight Lowery grew up in Santa Cruz, California. He went to Soquel High School in Soquel, California. There, he was a star running back for his school's football team.
During his senior year, Lowery set a school record by scoring 25 touchdowns in one season. He also set a county record by scoring 7 touchdowns in a single game! He was also a great defensive player, getting 20 interceptions in 20 games during his junior and senior years.
Lowery was also a talented basketball player. He was a starter on the varsity team for three years. In his junior year, he was named the league's MVP.
College Football Career
Playing at Cabrillo College
Before going to San Jose State, Lowery played at Cabrillo College in Aptos, California. He played as a Free Safety and on special teams. In his first year, he led all California junior colleges with 9 interceptions. Even though an injury cut his second season short, he still managed to get four more interceptions. He finished his time at Cabrillo with 13 interceptions in just 15 games.
Time at San Jose State University

Lowery became a two-time All-America player at San Jose State University. He was recognized by important groups like the AFCA. In 2006, he led the entire nation with 9 interceptions.
In his final year at San Jose State in 2007, Lowery had 4 interceptions. He was also named to the All-WAC team. After the season, he played in the 83rd East–West Shrine Game, where he made 2 more interceptions. He was the first player in San Jose State history to be named an All-American in two years in a row.
Professional NFL Career
New York Jets (2008–2010)
The New York Jets were impressed by Lowery's skills and drafted him in the fourth round of the 2008 NFL draft. He was the 113th player chosen overall. He could play both cornerback and safety.
Lowery played his first NFL game against the Miami Dolphins. He quickly showed his talent, making four tackles and defending three passes. He was even named to the NFL's mid-season all-rookie team. In 2009, he continued to play well, finishing the season with 24 tackles and 3 interceptions.
In 2010, Lowery scored his first career touchdown. He intercepted a pass from famous quarterback Brett Favre. This play helped the Jets win their game against the Vikings.
Jacksonville Jaguars (2011–2013)
Lowery was traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2011. In his very first game with the Jaguars, he intercepted a pass from Matt Hasselbeck. This interception helped the Jaguars win the game.
In 2012, Lowery signed a four-year contract extension with the Jaguars. During a game in 2012, he even tackled a fan who ran onto the field! His 2013 season ended early when he was placed on injured reserve.
Atlanta Falcons (2014)
Lowery joined the Atlanta Falcons in 2014. He helped improve the Falcons' defense that year. He took over the role of Free Safety and did a great job.
Indianapolis Colts (2015)
In 2015, Lowery signed with the Indianapolis Colts. He played one season with them.
San Diego Chargers (2016)
Lowery signed a three-year contract with the San Diego Chargers in 2016. He was brought in to fill an important spot on their team. He played one season with the Chargers before being released in 2017.
After Playing Football
In 2018, Dwight Lowery returned to his old high school, Soquel High School. He became the head football coach there.
Personal Life
Dwight Lowery was raised by his mother, Tracy Rivers. He has six other brothers and sisters, including a sister named Aujanae. He is married to his wife, Ashley Lowery.
