Earl Peak is a cool mountain in Washington state. It stands 7,036-foot (2,145-metre) tall! This peak is found in Kittitas County. It's right on the edge of the amazing Alpine Lakes Wilderness.
Earl Peak is one of the highest points in the Teanaway area. It's the eighth tallest in the Wenatchee Mountains. You can find it about two miles southwest of Navaho Peak. The land around Earl Peak is looked after by the Wenatchee National Forest. Water from the peak flows into different rivers. Some water goes south into the Teanaway River. Other water flows north into Hardscrabble Creek. This creek is part of the Wenatchee River system. If you climb to the top, you get an awesome view of Mount Stuart and the Stuart Range.
Weather Around Earl Peak

The area around Earl Peak has a special kind of weather. It's a bit drier than places to the west. This is because it's located east of the Cascade Mountains.
How Mountains Affect Weather
Most of our weather comes from the Pacific Ocean. It travels east towards the Cascade Mountains. When these weather fronts hit the tall mountains, they are forced to rise. As the air goes up, it cools down. This makes the moisture in the air turn into rain or snow. This process is called orographic lift. So, the western side of the Cascades gets a lot of rain and snow.
Dryer Eastern Slopes
Because of this, the eastern slopes, where Earl Peak is, get less rain. Summers here can be warm. Sometimes, there are thunderstorms. In winter, it's often cloudy. But in summer, high pressure systems over the Pacific Ocean bring clear skies. This means you often see little or no clouds during the summer months.
