The East Branch Mattawamkeag River is a smaller river that flows into the Mattawamkeag River in Aroostook County, Maine. It starts in a place called Dudley (which is also known as Maine Township 7, Range 3, WELS). This is where the river's journey begins, at its source (46°13′51″N 68°08′53″W / 46.2307°N 68.1480°W / 46.2307; -68.1480 (East Branch Mattawamkeag River source)).

The river flows for about 36 miles (58 km) (which is about 58 kilometers). It travels south and then southeast. Finally, it joins with the West Branch Mattawamkeag River. This meeting point, called a confluence, is in Haynesville. This spot is about 10 miles (16 km) (about 16 kilometers) west of the border between Canada and the United States.

Pleasant Lake is the biggest lake in the area that the East Branch Mattawamkeag River flows through. The lake stretches from the northeast part of Island Falls. It also reaches into the northwest part of Maine Township 4, Range 3.

Lake Features and Wildlife

The western side of Pleasant Lake flows into the East Branch Mattawamkeag River. This happens about 5 miles (8.0 km) downstream from Oakfield. The lake is home to different kinds of fish. You can find smallmouth bass and rainbow smelt living there naturally.

The lake is also stocked with fish. This means that young fish are added to the lake by people. They add brook trout and land-locked Atlantic salmon. Land-locked salmon are a type of salmon that live their whole lives in fresh water, instead of going to the ocean.

Visiting Pleasant Lake

If you want to visit Pleasant Lake, there is a simple place to launch a boat. This boat launch area is located at the western end of the lake. It's a great spot for fishing or just enjoying the water.
