What is East Oakdale's History?
In the 1800s, the Stanislaus River was an important crossing point. There were three ferries that helped people cross the river on the old Stockton - Los Angeles Road.
One of these ferries, called Heath & Emory's Ferry, was located right where East Oakdale is today. Another ferry, Taylor's Ferry Crossing, was in the area that is now the city of Oakdale. The third, Islips Ferry, was a bit further down the river. These ferries were vital for travel and trade back then.

The 2010 United States Census counted 2,762 people living in East Oakdale. This means there were about 530 people per square mile.
Most of the people living there were White (91.6%). There were also smaller numbers of African American, Native American, Asian, and Pacific Islander residents. About 10.3% of the population identified as Hispanic or Latino.
