Eastgardens is a cool suburb located in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. It's about 9 kilometers (around 5.5 miles) south of Sydney's main city area, also known as the Sydney CBD. This area is part of the Bayside Council.
Eastgardens is well-known for its huge shopping center, Westfield Eastgardens. You can find it at the corner of Wentworth Avenue and Bunnerong Road.
Discovering Eastgardens' Past
Before it was called Eastgardens, this area was part of other suburbs. These included Pagewood and Hillsdale. The name "Eastgardens" actually came from the big shopping center. The Westfield Eastgardens shopping center first opened its doors in 1987.
The land where the shopping center now stands has an interesting history. It used to be owned by the government. For a while, it was a bus depot for the Urban Transit Authority. It was also a large car manufacturing plant for Holden cars.

In 2016, a survey counted the people living in Eastgardens. There were 860 people living there at that time. Most people, about 56.3%, were born in Australia. Also, about 52.9% of the people spoke only English at home.
