Discovering Eastgardens' Past

Before it was called Eastgardens, this area was part of other suburbs. These included Pagewood and Hillsdale. The name "Eastgardens" actually came from the big shopping center. The Westfield Eastgardens shopping center first opened its doors in 1987.

The land where the shopping center now stands has an interesting history. It used to be owned by the government. For a while, it was a bus depot for the Urban Transit Authority. It was also a large car manufacturing plant for Holden cars.
