Écublens is a small town, also called a municipality, in Switzerland. It is located in the Glâne district, which is part of the Fribourg canton. Switzerland has many cantons, which are like states or regions. Écublens is a peaceful place with a rich history.

History of Écublens
Écublens was first written about in the year 1180. Back then, its name was Escublens. For a while, it was also known by a German name, Scubilingen. But today, only the French name Écublens is used.
Geography and Location
Écublens covers an area of about 4.9 square kilometers (1.9 square miles). A big part of this land, about 65%, is used for farming. Forests cover almost 24% of the area. Buildings and roads make up about 8.4% of the land.
The town is located right on the edge of the Canton of Vaud. It sits on the left side of the Broye River. Écublens is made up of the main village and two smaller areas called hamlets. These hamlets are Eschiens and Villangeaux. From 1883 until 1969, these three communities were separate but worked together.
Coat of Arms
The official symbol of Écublens is its coat of arms. It shows a red key on a gold background. This design is called Or, a Key in pale Gules in the language of heraldry.
