Rue is a town in Switzerland. It is located in the Glâne district, which is part of the canton of Fribourg. A canton is like a state or province in other countries.
Over time, other smaller towns have joined Rue. On January 1, 1993, the town of Blessens became part of Rue. Later, in 2001, Promasens and Gillarens also merged with Rue.

History of Rue
Rue was first mentioned in old records in 1152. Back then, it was called Rota. The town also used to have a German name, Rüw, but this name is not used anymore.
Geography of Rue
Rue covers an area of about 11.2 square kilometers (4.3 square miles). A large part of this land, about 72%, is used for farming. Forests cover about 18.8% of the area.
About 8.7% of the land is built up with buildings and roads. A small part, 0.6%, is made up of rivers or lakes. The town is located along the upper part of the Broye River.
The municipality of Rue includes the main village of Rue, along with Blessens, Promasens, and Gillarens. These smaller villages joined Rue in 1992 and 2001.
