Ursy (pronounced yur-SEE) is a small town, called a municipality, in the Glâne area of the canton of Fribourg in Switzerland. It is also known as Ursi in a local dialect.

History of Ursy
Ursy was first written about in the year 1160. Back then, it was known as Ursei.
Over time, Ursy grew by joining with other nearby towns. On January 1, 2001, the towns of Vauderens, Bionnens, and Mossel became part of Ursy. Later, on January 1, 2012, the town of Vuarmarens also merged with Ursy.
Geography of Ursy
Ursy covers an area of about 8.9 square kilometers (3.4 square miles). This was its size in 2009. After the town of Vuarmarens joined in 2012, Ursy's total area became about 14.96 square kilometers (5.78 square miles).
Most of the land in Ursy is used for farming. About 66.5% of the area is farmland. Forests cover about 24.1% of the land. The remaining 9.3% is built-up areas, like buildings and roads.
Ursy's Coat of Arms
Ursy has a special symbol called a coat of arms. This symbol stayed the same even after Ursy merged with other towns. The coat of arms shows a red top half with a silver cross. The bottom half is gold with a black bear walking across it.
People of Ursy
Ursy has a population of about 1,738 people. Around 12.4% of the people living in Ursy are from other countries. Over the past ten years (2000-2010), the number of people living in Ursy grew by about 20.8%.
Most people in Ursy speak French as their main language. About 88% of the population speaks French. Other languages spoken include Portuguese (4.7%) and Albanian (3.4%).
In 2008, about 48.4% of the people in Ursy were male, and 51.6% were female. Many people were born in Ursy or in the same region of Switzerland. About 14.8% of the people were born outside of Switzerland.
Children and teenagers (up to 19 years old) make up about 29.6% of Ursy's population. Adults (20-64 years old) are 57.9%, and seniors (over 64 years old) are 12.4%.

Important Buildings and Sites
The D’Invau farm house is a very old and important building in Ursy. It is listed as a Swiss heritage site of national significance. This means it is protected because of its historical and cultural value.

The Fribourg school system works like this:
- One year of optional Kindergarten.
- Six years of Primary school.
- Three years of required lower Secondary school. Students are grouped by their abilities.
- After lower Secondary, students can choose a three or four-year upper Secondary school. This can be a gymnasium (which prepares them for university) or a vocational program (which teaches job skills).
- After upper Secondary, students can go to a higher school or start an apprenticeship (on-the-job training).
During the 2010-2011 school year, 195 students attended classes in Ursy. Many students from Ursy also went to schools in nearby towns for different levels of education.
Transportation
Ursy has a railway station called Vauderens. This station is on the Lausanne–Bern railway line. You can catch trains from here to places like Romont FR and Allaman.
