Edge Hill is on the traditional land of the Yidiny people, who are Indigenous Australians. They have lived here for a very long time.

The name "Edge Hill" comes from an old quarry called Edgecliff. The town that grew near it was named Edge Hill because it sits on the lower parts of Mount Whitfield.

Edge Hill State School opened its doors on 5 February 1940. It started with just one classroom and one teacher.
