Edgewood is a city in Kenton County, Kentucky, in the United States. In 2020, about 8,435 people lived there. The city was named after an old home called Walker Estates.

History of Edgewood

Edgewood became an official city on November 15, 1948. Before that, part of the area was known as South Ft Mitchell.

Later, in 1968, two other nearby cities, Summit Hills Heights and St. Pius Heights, joined together with Edgewood. The new, bigger city officially started on January 1, 1969.

Where is Edgewood?

Edgewood is located in the northern part of Kenton County. It shares borders with several other cities. To the north is Crestview Hills, and to the northeast is Fort Wright. Covington is to the east, and Erlanger is to the south and west.

A main road called the Dixie Highway (which includes U.S. Routes 25, 42, and 127) goes through the northwestern part of Edgewood. This road can take you about 6 miles (10 km) northeast to the center of Covington or 3 miles (5 km) southwest to Florence.

Interstate 275, a large highway that goes around Cincinnati, passes just north of Edgewood. You can get onto it from Exit 83 (the Dixie Highway).

The United States Census Bureau says that Edgewood covers about 4.29 square miles (11.1 square kilometers) in total. A very small part of this area, about 0.02 square miles (0.06 square kilometers), is water.

In the year 2000, there were 9,400 people living in Edgewood. There were 3,099 households, which means groups of people living together in homes. Most of these were families.
