The Edison Museum is a cool place in Beaumont, Texas. It's a science and history museum all about the life and amazing inventions of Thomas Edison. You can find it at 350 Pine Street, right in the middle of Edison Plaza.

A Historic Building for Inventions

The museum is located inside a really old building. It used to be the Gulf States Utilities Travis Street Power Substation. This power station started working way back in 1929.

Even during the tough times of The Great Depression, this substation kept the power on! It helped light up streets, run cotton gins, pump water for rice farms, and power oil refineries.

What You'll Discover at the Museum

The Edison Museum is special because it's the only one of its kind west of the Mississippi River. It has lots of fun, interactive exhibits. You can learn all about Thomas Edison, his big ideas, and how he changed the world.

You'll see some of his most famous inventions, like the first working incandescent light bulb. You can also explore the phonograph, which was one of the first ways to record and play sound. Plus, you can check out some of Edison's very early motion pictures.

The museum also has a special library. It's full of books and information about Edison if you want to learn even more. The museum's collection of over 1,400 items started with a man named W. Donham Crawford. He loved collecting Edison's artifacts, and his wife later gave them to the museum.

The Edison Museum is part of a group of museums in downtown Beaumont. It's close to other interesting places like the Art Museum of Southeast Texas and the Fire Museum of Texas.
