Edith González Fuentes (born December 10, 1964 – died June 13, 2019) was a famous Mexican actress. She was well-known for her work in many telenovelas, which are like long TV dramas. She worked with big companies like Televisa, TV Azteca, and Telemundo.
Edith González started acting in 1970 in a telenovela called Cosa juzgada. She then had a very successful career in many TV shows. Some of her most famous telenovelas include Los ricos también lloran (1979–1980) and Corazón salvaje (1993–1994).
She also starred in Salomé (2001–2002) and Doña Bárbara (2008–2009). In 2011, she moved to TV Azteca, another major Mexican TV company. There, she starred in shows like Cielo rojo (2011–2012) and Las Bravo (2014–2015). Her last main role was in Eva la Trailera in 2016. In 2019, she was a judge on the fashion show Este es mi estilo.
Edith also acted in movies. Her first film was Un cuento de Navidad in 1974. She had roles in films like Trampa Infernal (1989) and Salón México (1996). She also performed in plays, including Aventurera. For her acting, she won and was nominated for several awards, such as the Diosas de Plata and Heraldo de México.

Life and Career
Early Life and Child Acting
Edith González was born on December 10, 1964, in Mexico City. From a young age, she loved acting and took part in school plays. She studied acting in big cities like New York, London, and Paris. She even studied at famous acting schools like the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute. She also learned English and art history at Sorbonne University.
When she was just five years old, she was chosen by the audience on a TV show to act with a famous actor. After that, she became a child actress in many films and TV series in the 1970s. Her first TV role was in the telenovela Cosa juzgada in 1970. She appeared in shows like Lucía Sombra (1971) and Los miserables (1973). For Los miserables, she won an Heraldo award in 1974 as a "revelation artist."
Her first movie was the TV film Canción de Navidad in 1974. She also appeared in films like El rey de los gorilas (1977) and Guyana: Crime of the Century (1979). At 15, she got a big role in Los ricos también lloran (1979), where she worked with Verónica Castro. She also became good friends with actress Christian Bach.
Becoming a Star
In 1982, Edith González got her first main role in the telenovela Bianca Vidal. The next year, she was in La fiera. In 1984, she had another main role in Sí, mi amor (TV series)Sí, mi amor. She also appeared in the TV show La hora marcada and telenovelas like Monte Calvario (1986), where she was the lead.
In 1987, she played a villain for the first time in Rosa salvaje. She left the show early due to disagreements with the production. Her character was then played by another actress. In 1989, she starred in the horror film Trampa Infernal with Pedro Fernández.
Top Actress at Televisa
The 1990s were a very busy time for Edith. In 1990, she had a main role in the telenovela En carne propia. In 1993, she starred in Corazón salvaje with Eduardo Palomo. This show became very popular.
From 1995 to 1996, she appeared in the TV series Mujer, Casos de la Vida Real. In 1996, she was the lead in La sombra del otro. In 1997, she starred in La jaula de oro.
In 1998, Edith took on the lead role in the play Aventurera, produced by Carmen Salinas. She was the first actress to play the main character, Elena Tejero, and was highly praised for her performance. In 1999, she starred in the telenovela Nunca te olvidaré.
In 2001, she had the main role in Salomé. In 2004, she starred in Mujer de madera, but she had to leave the show because she became pregnant. Another actress took over her role. She also appeared in the English-language film Señorita Justice (2004).
In 2006, she played a main villain in Mundo de fieras. In 2007, she had another lead role in Palabra de mujer. In 2008, she traveled to Colombia to star in Doña Bárbara, a very popular telenovela. Moving to TV Azteca and Final Roles
In 2010, Edith González joined TV Azteca. Her first main role for the company was in the telenovela Cielo rojo in 2011. She also appeared in the TV film Poquita ropa (2011).
In 2013, she starred in Vivir a destiempo. That same year, she helped produce and acted in the film Deseo with her friend Christian Bach. In 2014, she had the lead role in Las Bravo.
In 2016, she returned to Telemundo to star in Eva la trailera. This show was later re-aired as a tribute to her after her passing. In 2019, Edith filmed her last movie, Un sentimiento honesto en el calabozo del olvido. She also served as a judge on the fashion reality show Este es mi Estilo, which was her final TV project.
Theater Work
Besides her many roles in TV and films, Edith González was also a talented stage actress. She performed in plays like Los árboles mueren de pie and Entre mujeres. Her most famous theater role was as Elena Tejero in Aventurera, a play produced by Carmen Salinas. She was the first actress to play this iconic character and was considered one of the best.
Personal Life
Edith González had a daughter named Constanza, who was born on August 17, 2004. Edith decided to raise Constanza on her own. Later, in 2008, Mexican politician Santiago Creel shared that he was Constanza's father.
In 2010, Edith married Lorenzo Lazo Margáin. She was also a very close friend of Argentine-Mexican actress Christian Bach, who passed away in February 2019.
Health and Passing
In 2016, Edith González was diagnosed with advanced ovarian cancer. She had surgery to remove parts of her body affected by the cancer. She bravely shared her journey and even said she had overcome the disease. However, in April 2019, there were rumors that the cancer had returned, which she denied at the time.
Sadly, on June 13, 2019, Edith González passed away from the disease at the age of 54. Her family made the difficult decision to take her off life support. Her funeral was held on June 13, and many family members and famous friends attended. On June 14, a tribute was held for her at the Jorge Negrete theatre, where fans, friends, and family gathered to remember her. She was later buried next to her father.
