Eduardo Celmi Camavinga (born November 10, 2002) is a talented professional footballer. He plays as a midfielder or left back for the famous Spanish club Real Madrid. Eduardo was born in Angola, but he plays for the French national team.

Camavinga started his career in France with Rennes. He made his first team debut when he was just 16 years old. He quickly became a key player for the team. In 2021, he joined Real Madrid. He helped Real Madrid win major titles, including the La Liga and UEFA Champions League in 2022 and 2024.

Eduardo's parents were refugees from Congo. They moved to France when he was very young. He later played for France's under-21 team. In 2020, at just 17, he played his first game for the senior French national team. This made him the youngest player to debut for France in over 100 years! He was also part of the French squad that finished second at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Eduardo's Early Life and Family

Eduardo Camavinga was born in a refugee camp in Cabinda, Angola, in 2002. His parents, Celestino Camavinga and Sofia Simão, had to leave Congo because of a civil war. They found safety in a refugee camp before Eduardo was born. He has five brothers and sisters.

When Eduardo was two years old, his family moved to France. They settled in a town called Fougères. Eduardo tried judo for a while, but he decided to focus only on football. In 2013, his family's house burned down. They lost most of their belongings. Eduardo said this sad event motivated him even more to succeed in football. He wanted to help his family.

Camavinga joined the youth team of Rennes when he was 11. On December 14, 2018, he signed his first professional contract. He was only 16 years and one month old. This made him the youngest professional player ever for Rennes at that time.

He played his first professional game for Rennes on April 6, 2019. It was a 3–3 draw against Angers in Ligue 1. He was 16 years and six months old. This made him the youngest player to ever play for Rennes' first team.

On August 18, 2019, Camavinga helped Rennes win 2–1 against Paris Saint-Germain. He made an assist and was named the best player of the match. He became the youngest player to make an assist in Ligue 1. He was 16 years and 281 days old. That same month, he won the UNFP Player of the Month award. He was the youngest player to ever win it. He scored his first goal for Rennes on December 15, 2019. It was in the 89th minute of a 1–0 win against Lyon.

He also played in four matches for Rennes in the 2020–21 UEFA Champions League.

Joining Real Madrid

On August 31, 2021, Real Madrid announced they had signed Camavinga. His contract was until June 30, 2027. He made his debut for Real Madrid on September 12. It was a 5–2 win against Celta Vigo. He scored a goal shortly after coming into the game.

Three days later, he played his first UEFA Champions League game for Real Madrid. He came on as a substitute and helped Rodrygo score the winning goal against Inter Milan.

On May 28, 2022, Camavinga played in the 2022 UEFA Champions League final. He came on in the 85th minute. Real Madrid won 1–0 against Liverpool. This helped his team win the 2021–22 UEFA Champions League title. On May 9, 2023, he made an assist to Vinícius Júnior in a Champions League semi-final game. He was 20 years and 180 days old. This made him the youngest player to make an assist in the Champions League semi-finals.

On November 7, 2023, Real Madrid announced that Camavinga had extended his contract. He will stay with the club until June 30, 2029.

The 2024–25 Season

Camavinga missed the first official match of the 2024–25 season. This was the 2024 UEFA Super Cup. He hurt his left knee during training before the match. He was expected to be out for several weeks. On October 2, 2024, Camavinga returned to play against Lille in the 2024–25 UEFA Champions League.

He had a challenging season, with less playing time. He was sometimes played as a left-back because other players were injured. His season ended early on April 23, 2025. He suffered a serious injury to his left leg during a match against Getafe. This injury meant he would miss several months of play. He could not play in the Copa del Rey final, the UEFA Nations League Finals, or the FIFA Club World Cup.

Eduardo's International Career

On October 31, 2019, Camavinga officially became a French citizen. Six days later, he was chosen to play for France's under-21 team.

On August 27, 2020, Camavinga was called up to play for France's senior team. This happened after another player, Paul Pogba, was unable to play. Camavinga became the youngest player to be called up to the French senior team since 1932. He was only 17 years, nine months, and 17 days old.

On September 8, he played his first game for France. It was a 4–2 win against Croatia. He came on as a substitute. By doing this, he became the youngest player to play for the France national team since 1914.

On October 7, 2020, Camavinga started his first game for France. It was a 7–1 win against Ukraine. He scored his first international goal with an amazing overhead kick. This made him the youngest goalscorer for France since 1914.

Camavinga played twice in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. France finished second in the tournament. He played as a left-back in one group game. In the final against Argentina, he came on as a substitute. The game was a thrilling 3–3 draw after extra time. France lost on penalties.
