Sir Edward Herbert (born June 1544 – died March 23, 1595) was an important English politician and landowner. He is well-known because his aunt, Katherine Parr, was the sixth and last wife of King Henry VIII.

Who Was Sir Edward Herbert?
Edward Herbert was born in Hendon, London, a town in England. He was the second son of William Herbert, 1st Earl of Pembroke, a powerful nobleman. His mother was Anne Parr, who was also a very important lady. She was a "Gentlewoman of the Chamber" to Queen Catherine Howard, another wife of King Henry VIII.
His Family Connections
Edward had an older brother named Henry Herbert, 2nd Earl of Pembroke. His sister, Lady Anne Herbert, married Francis Talbot. After his mother passed away around 1551, his father married Lady Anne Compton.
Edward's grandparents on his father's side were Sir Richard Herbert and Margaret Cradock. Sir Richard was even a guardian for the young King Edward VI. On his mother's side, his grandparents were Sir Thomas Parr and Maud Green. His aunt, Katherine Parr, became Queen of England. She was the last wife of King Henry VIII. His uncle, William Parr, also became a very important nobleman.
Sir Edward's Path in Politics
Edward Herbert went to Peterhouse, Cambridge for his education. After finishing his studies, he became a Member of Parliament. This meant he was chosen to represent a place called Old Sarum in the English government. He served in Parliament from 1562 to 1563.
When his father died in 1569, Edward inherited land in Hendon, Middlesex. He also received land from his mother in Northamptonshire and Westmorland. In 1574, he was given the special title of "Sir," meaning he was knighted. Later, in 1587, he bought land in Powys, Wales. This land had once belonged to an old noble family.
His Family Life
In 1570, Edward Herbert married Mary Stanley. Mary was the daughter of Sir Thomas Stanley. Her father had a very important job at the Tower of London. He helped manage the money for the Royal Mint during the time of Queen Elizabeth I.
Edward and Mary had a large family. They had four sons and eight daughters. One of their sons was William Herbert, 1st Baron Powis. William later married Lady Eleanor Percy.
Sir Edward Herbert passed away in 1595. He was buried at St Mary's Church, Welshpool in Welshpool, Wales.
