Edward Edmund Maximilian George Windsor, Lord Downpatrick (born 2 December 1988), also known as Eddy Downpatrick, is a British travel expert and fashion designer. He used to work in finance. He is also a relative of the British royal family.

Lord Downpatrick uses the title "Lord Downpatrick" as a courtesy. This means he uses one of his grandfather's extra titles. He is a distant cousin of King Charles III. He is also the highest-ranking member of the House of Windsor who cannot become king or queen. This is because he is Roman Catholic.

Early Life and Family

Lord Downpatrick was born on 2 December 1988 in St Mary's Hospital, London. He grew up in Cambridge, England. He is the oldest child of George Windsor, Earl of St Andrews. His father is the son of Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, who is next in line to become Duke of Kent.

Lord Downpatrick's mother is Sylvana, Countess of St Andrews. She is a historian born in Canada, with family roots in Austria and France. Diana, Princess of Wales, was Lord Downpatrick's godmother. Sadly, she passed away before he could get to know her well.

Lord Downpatrick went to Eton College for school. Then, he went to Keble College, Oxford, to study modern languages like French and German. After university, he wanted to join the British Army. However, old rugby injuries stopped him from doing so.

He is close to his cousin Princess Beatrice. He is also close to his younger sisters, Lady Marina and Lady Amelia Windsor. Lady Amelia is a fashion model. Their great-grandmother, Princess Marina, Duchess of Kent, was a fashion icon for the royal family after World War II.

Career

Lord Downpatrick first thought about starting a fashion brand in 2009. This was while he was hiking in Scotland. But he decided to focus on his studies instead. He then worked as a financial analyst at JP Morgan.

In 2016, Lord Downpatrick left JP Morgan. He then started working as a fashion designer. In 2017, he helped create a fashion brand called FIDIR with Justine Dalby. He is currently the creative director for the brand. FIDIR makes outdoor clothes and accessories. These include handbags, wallets, sweatshirts, and T-shirts. His designs are inspired by the beautiful Scottish Highlands.

In 2021, Lord Downpatrick started a travel company called Aristeia Travel. This company plans trips and adventures to many places around the world. These places include Europe, Asia, Africa, and Latin America. The company also arranges exciting sports trips like heliskiing and whale watching.

He is also a partner at Wheeler-Windsor Expeditions. He works with Jack Wheeler to offer special trips to clients.

Succession Rights

In 2003, when he was 15, Lord Downpatrick made an important choice. He decided to become Catholic. He was baptised in the Church of England as a baby. His grandmother, Katharine, Duchess of Kent, and his uncle, Lord Nicholas Windsor, also became Catholic.

Because he became Catholic, he is no longer in the line of succession to the British throne. This rule comes from the Act of Settlement 1701. Lord Downpatrick is the highest-ranking person related to King Charles III who cannot become king because he is Catholic.

As of January 2024, he would have been 43rd in line to the throne. However, he is still second in line to become the Duke of Kent, after his father.
