Eike Heinrich Immel (born 27 November 1960) is a German former professional footballer. He was a talented goalkeeper. Eike played from 1975 until 1997. His main teams were Borussia Dortmund, VfB Stuttgart, and Manchester City.
He also played for the West Germany national team. Eike was part of the squads for the 1982 FIFA World Cup and 1986 FIFA World Cup. He also played in the UEFA Euro 1980 and UEFA Euro 1988 tournaments. After retiring from playing, he became a manager and a goalkeeping coach.

Eike Immel's Club Career
Eike Immel was a top youth goalkeeper for West Germany. In 1978, at just 17 years old, he became the main goalkeeper for Borussia Dortmund. He stayed with Dortmund until 1986. Then, he moved to VfB Stuttgart. This transfer cost two million Deutsche Mark. It was the highest fee ever paid for a goalkeeper in German football at that time.
Immel played for Stuttgart for nine years. He helped them win the Bundesliga title in 1992. He also helped them reach the UEFA Cup final in 1989. After Stuttgart, he joined Manchester City. He retired from playing football at the end of the 1996–97 season. In total, he played 534 matches in the German top league.
Playing for West Germany
Eike Immel played for the West Germany national team for eight years. He decided to retire from the national team after EURO '88. Immel had been the starting goalkeeper since 1987. His 19th and final game for his country was in the semi-final of the 1988 UEFA European Football Championship.
This decision meant he missed out on the team that won the 1990 FIFA World Cup. Bodo Illgner became the starting goalkeeper instead. Immel later said that retiring from international games at just 28 was a very quick decision. He was part of the squad that won the 1980 UEFA European Championship.
Life After Playing: Coaching Career
After his playing career, Immel became a coach. He joined VfR Heilbronn in 1998 as a manager. He managed the team until 2001. Since then, he has worked as a goalkeeping coach. He worked with famous coaches like Christoph Daum. He coached at clubs like Fenerbahçe, Beşiktaş, and Austria Wien.
