Eisten is a small town, also called a municipality, in the Valais canton of Switzerland. It is located in the Visp district. This charming place is known for its beautiful mountain views and quiet village life.

History of Eisten

Eisten was first mentioned in official records way back in the year 1299. At that time, its name was written as Oysten.

Geography and Nature

Eisten covers an area of about 38 square kilometers (which is about 14.6 square miles). A small part of this land, about 9.6%, is used for farming. Forests cover about 23.9% of the area.

Most of the land, about 65.8%, is made up of mountains and other natural areas that are not used for farming or buildings. Only a tiny part, 0.7%, has buildings or roads.

The town is found in the Visp district. It sits on both the eastern and western sides of the entrance to the Saas valley. Eisten is located east of the Mischabel mountain range. The highest point in this range is the Dom mountain, which stands at 4,545 meters (14,911 feet) tall.
