Ekaterine "Eka" Tkeshelashvili (Georgian: ეკატერინე "ეკა" ტყეშელაშვილი; born 23 May 1977) is a politician and expert in law from Georgia. She has held many important jobs in the Georgian government. These include being the Minister of Justice, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Secretary of the National Security Council. She also served as Deputy Prime Minister and State Minister for Reintegration under President Mikheil Saakashvili.
Early Life and Education
Eka Tkeshelashvili was born on May 23, 1977, in Tbilisi. At that time, Tbilisi was part of the Georgian Soviet Socialist Republic. Today, it is the capital of Georgia.
She studied law at Tbilisi State University and graduated in 1999. After university, she worked as a lawyer for the International Committee of the Red Cross in Georgia. This organization helps people affected by war and violence. She also worked for another group called IRIS Georgia.
Later, she worked for the Lawyers' Committee of Human Rights in New York City. From December 2002 to May 2003, she was an intern at a special court in the the Hague, Netherlands. This court dealt with serious crimes from a past conflict. Today, she is a senior member of the European Leadership Network, a group focused on foreign policy.
Political Career
Eka Tkeshelashvili began her government career on February 1, 2004. Her first role was Deputy Minister of Justice. This meant she helped lead the country's legal system.
After that, she became Deputy Minister of Interior in September 2005. This role involved helping with internal security and police matters. From May 2006 to August 2007, she was the main judge for the Tbilisi Court of Appeals. This court reviews decisions made by lower courts.
She served as Minister of Justice from August 2007 to January 2008. Then, she became the Prosecutor General of Georgia until May 2008. The Prosecutor General is the chief lawyer who represents the government in legal cases.
On May 5, 2008, she was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs. This job meant she was in charge of how Georgia dealt with other countries. During this time, Georgia had some tense relations with its neighbor, Russia. This was about regions called Abkhazia and South Ossetia. Georgia also wanted to join NATO, a group of countries working together for security. Eka Tkeshelashvili promised to work hard to find peaceful solutions to these problems.
In December 2008, she was replaced as Minister of Foreign Affairs. Soon after, she was chosen to lead the National Security Council. This council helps the president make important decisions about the country's safety. From 2010 to 2012, she served as the State Minister for Reintegration.
Since 2017, Eka Tkeshelashvili has been the Head of the European Union Anti-Corruption Initiative in Ukraine. This initiative helps fight corruption. She also teaches at a school in Kyiv and at the International Black Sea University in Tbilisi.

Eka Tkeshelashvili is married and has two children. Besides her native Georgian, she can speak English, Russian, and French.
