Eldorado (pronounced EL-də-RAH-doh or EL-də-RAY-doh) is a small city in Texas, United States. It is the only city in Schleicher County and serves as its main town. In 2020, about 1,574 people lived there. Eldorado is located on U.S. Highway 277. It is about 21 miles (34 km) north of Sonora and 43 miles (69 km) south of San Angelo.

Eldorado is found at coordinates 30.860746 degrees North and -100.598329 degrees West. The city covers a total area of about 1.4 square miles (3.6 square kilometers). All of this area is land, with no large bodies of water.

Education in Eldorado
The Schleicher County Independent School District serves the city of Eldorado. This district is responsible for the local schools.
Eldorado High School faced challenges in the past. In 2008, the state of Texas said the school was "Academically Unacceptable." However, by 2010, the school had improved. It was then rated as "Academically Acceptable."
Yearning for Zion Ranch
Just outside Eldorado, there was a large community known as the Yearning for Zion Ranch. This ranch was home to many families. In 2008, a large number of children from the ranch were temporarily placed with other families. They were later returned to their mothers. The Yearning for Zion Ranch was sold and closed down in 2018.
Eldorado in Movies and TV
The movie El Dorado stars famous actors like John Wayne and Robert Mitchum. This movie is set in a made-up town called "El Dorado" in the late 1800s. However, the real town of Eldorado was founded in 1895. This means the movie's story happened before the actual town existed.
Eldorado and its local newspaper, The Eldorado Success, were also featured in a 2022 Netflix documentary. This documentary was called "Keep Sweet: Pray and Obey." It was about a religious community known as the FLDS.
