Electus was a company that made and distributed TV shows and movies. It was started in 2009 by Ben Silverman. The company got its money from IAC. Electus worked with many big TV channels and online platforms. These included NBC, ABC, MTV, and Facebook. In 2018, another company called Propagate Content bought Electus.
The Story of Electus
Electus was created in 2009 by Ben Silverman. He used to be a top boss at NBC Entertainment. The company got its funding from Barry Diller's company, IAC. When Electus started, IAC connected it with CollegeHumor. This was a popular comedy website that made shows for the internet and TV.
Working with Other Companies
In January 2010, Electus teamed up with actors Jason Bateman and Will Arnett. They launched a company called DumbDumb. This company made ads and online videos for different brands. For example, they created a campaign for Orbit Gum. They also made an online talk show for Denny's called "Always Open."
In August 2010, Electus announced a deal with 5x5 Media. This group had producers who worked on famous shows. These included Survivor and Amazing Race.
In January 2011, Electus bought Engine Entertainment. They then created a new part of the company called Electus/Engine Distribution. This new team helped share Electus's own projects around the world. They also helped other companies distribute their shows.
Later in January 2011, Electus partnered with Tony DiSanto and Liz Gateley. They used to work at MTV. Together, they formed a new company called DiGa. DiGa focused on making reality and scripted shows for TV.
In June 2012, Electus worked with YouTube. They launched a food channel on YouTube called HUNGRY. This channel featured famous chefs like Duff Goldman and Laura Vitale.
In 2013, Electus took over parts of CollegeHumor. They created a studio called Big Breakfast. This studio made shows like Adam Ruins Everything for TruTV.
In 2018, the company IAC sold Electus to Propagate Content.
