Elitettan (which means "The Elite First" in English) is an exciting professional football league for women in Sweden. It is the second-highest division for women's football in the country.
Fourteen different clubs compete in Elitettan each year. The league has a system of promotion and relegation. This means that teams can move up to the top league, called Damallsvenskan, or move down to Division 1.
The football season runs from April to October. During this time, each team plays 26 matches. Elitettan was first created in 2013.

Elitettan is a key part of women's football in Sweden. It helps develop talented players and teams. The league provides a strong pathway for clubs to reach the highest level of Swedish football.
Teams work hard all season to finish at the top. The top teams get a chance to play in the Damallsvenskan. This is the premier women's football league in Sweden.

Moving Up: Promoted Teams
At the end of each Elitettan season, the best-performing teams get promoted. This means they move up to play in the Damallsvenskan. This is a big achievement for any club.

- In 2019, Umeå IK and IK Uppsala Fotboll were promoted.
- In 2020, AIK and Hammarby IF moved up.
- In 2021, Umeå IK and IFK Kalmar earned promotion.
- In 2022, Växjö DFF and IFK Norrköping were promoted.
