The History of Mölndal
Mölndal's name tells a story! It comes from two old Swedish words. "Möln" is a short way of saying "Möllor," which means "mills." "Dal" is the Swedish word for "valley." So, Mölndal means "Valley of Mills."
Long ago, the city grew because of its many mills. There were tall waterfalls in a place called Kvarnbyn. These waterfalls gave power to many watermills. There were also windmills on the hills. Together, these mills helped Mölndal become an early industrial town.

The city is close to the University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology. These universities have technology parks that have helped other industries grow. These include microwave technology and information technology. Two national research centers, IFP SICOMP AB and IVF Industrial Research and Development Corporation, are also in Mölndal.
