Elkton is a small city in Douglas County, Oregon, in the United States. It is located along the lower part of the Umpqua River. You can find it where Oregon Route 38 and Oregon Route 138 meet.

Elkton is about 20 miles (32 km) west of Interstate 5. It is also about 14 miles (23 km) west of Drain. In 2020, about 183 people lived there.

History of Elkton

Elkton was started in August 1850 by explorers. They built it around Fort Umpqua, near where Elk Creek flows into the Umpqua River.

A post office was opened in Elkton on September 26, 1851. The area officially became a city on November 4, 1948. This means it got its own local government.

Geography and Location

Elkton is a very small city. It covers a total area of about 0.26 square miles (0.67 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, about 0.23 square miles (0.60 square kilometers). A small part, about 0.03 square miles (0.07 square kilometers), is water.

The city is located about 138 feet (42 meters) above sea level. This means it is not very high up.
