Ellington is a small city in Reynolds County, Missouri, United States. In 2020, about 790 people lived there. Ellington is known as the starting point of the famous Tri-State Tornado in 1925. This tornado was one of the deadliest in U.S. history.

History of Ellington
Ellington was first called Barnesville. In 1856, it was renamed Ellington. This new name honored Sina Huff Ellington. She allowed a railroad line to be built across her family's farm.
Before that, the area had a post office named Logan's Creek, which opened in 1845. The name of the post office changed to Ellington in 1895.
A special place called the Civil War Fortification at Barnesville is important to history. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1998. This means it's a protected site because of its historical value.
Geography and Location
Ellington covers an area of about 1.38 square miles (3.57 square kilometers), and all of it is land.
The city is located near popular tourist spots like Eminence, Van Buren, and Lesterville. Because of this, many visitors to the Ozark National Scenic Riverways stop in Ellington.
Sweetwater Lead Mine
About 12 miles northwest of Ellington, there is a mine called the Sweetwater Mine. It is owned by the Doe Run Company. This mine digs up valuable metals like lead and zinc from the ground.

In 2010, the city had 987 people living in 407 homes. About 241 of these were families. The city had about 715 people per square mile (276 people per square kilometer). There were 488 houses in total.
Most people living in Ellington were White (about 98.38%). A small number were Black or African American (0.20%), Native American (0.41%), or Asian (0.20%). About 0.81% of people were from two or more backgrounds. About 1.11% of the population was Hispanic or Latino.
In 2010, about 37.3% of homes had children under 18 living there. About 39.8% of homes were married couples. Some homes had a female head of household without a husband (15.2%), or a male head of household without a wife (4.2%). About 40.8% of homes were not families.
Many homes (34.2%) had just one person living there. About 19.7% of homes had someone living alone who was 65 years old or older. On average, about 2.42 people lived in each home, and families had about 3.08 people.
The average age of people in Ellington was 37.1 years. About 27.8% of residents were under 18. About 8.4% were between 18 and 24. People aged 25 to 44 made up 23.1% of the population. Those aged 45 to 64 were 24.2%, and 16.7% were 65 or older. There were slightly more females (54.2%) than males (45.8%) in the city.

The Southern Reynolds County R-II School District runs two schools in Ellington. These are Ellington Elementary School and Ellington High School.
Ellington also has a public library. It is part of the Reynolds County Library District, which means it serves the whole county.

Notable Person from Ellington
- Carter Buford (1876–1959) was born and went to school in Ellington. He became a Missouri State Senator for many terms, helping to make laws for the state.
