Elsa Martinelli was born Elisa Tia in a town called Grosseto in Tuscany, Italy. Her family later moved to Rome.
When she was 18, in 1953, a famous fashion designer named Roberto Capucci discovered her. This was her big break into the exciting world of fashion! She quickly became a successful model.
Soon, Elsa started getting small parts in movies. Her first important movie role was in 1955. She starred alongside the famous actor Kirk Douglas in a film called The Indian Fighter. Kirk Douglas actually saw her on a magazine cover and thought she would be perfect for his movie!

In 1956, Elsa won a special award called the Silver Bear for Best Actress. She received this award at the 6th Berlin International Film Festival for her amazing performance in the movie Donatella. This award showed everyone how talented she was!
