Playing for Clubs
Starting in College
Emery Welshman began his football journey in college. He played for Siena College for two years. In 2009, he was named the best new player in his league, scoring 6 goals. The next year, he scored 13 goals in just 16 games. This made him a well-known player in college football.
He then moved to Oregon State University for his last two college years. He continued to play very well, scoring 3 goals and helping with 7 others in 2011. In his final year, he scored 10 goals and helped with 4 more. His great performance led to him being invited to the MLS Combine, where professional teams look for new players.
Joining Toronto FC
In 2013, Emery was chosen by Toronto FC in the MLS SuperDraft. This is like a draft in other sports where teams pick new players. He played his first game for Toronto FC as a substitute. He also played a full game in a Canadian Championship match. However, he did not play many more games for the team and left in 2014.
Playing for Sigma FC
After leaving Toronto FC, Emery played for Sigma FC in 2014. This team is part of a league called League1 Ontario.
Time with Real Salt Lake
In 2015, Emery joined Real Monarchs, which is the reserve team for Real Salt Lake. Reserve teams help players develop their skills. He played well enough to sign a contract with the main Real Salt Lake team in 2016. However, his contract was not renewed at the end of the 2016 season.
Moving to Puerto Rico FC
Emery then joined Puerto Rico FC in 2017. He played 22 games for them and scored 5 goals.
Playing for FC Cincinnati
In 2018, Emery signed with FC Cincinnati. He had a fantastic game on May 16, 2018, when he scored three goals in one match! This is called a hat-trick in football. His goals helped his team win 4–1. He signed again with FC Cincinnati for their first season in Major League Soccer (MLS) in 2019.
Loan to Forge FC
In 2019, FC Cincinnati loaned Emery to Forge FC. A loan means a player temporarily plays for another team. He played 11 games for Forge FC and scored 3 goals. Later that year, he returned to FC Cincinnati, and his contract with them ended.
Playing in Israel
After his time with FC Cincinnati and Forge FC, Emery moved to Israel. In August 2019, he signed with Hapoel Haifa. He then joined Bnei Sakhnin in January 2020.
Returning to Forge FC
Emery came back to Forge FC in Canada in September 2021. He helped the team win a league title in 2022. In 2023, he played for Sigma FC, which is connected to Forge FC. In December 2023, Emery announced he was retiring from professional soccer. However, he continued to play for Sigma FC in 2024.
Playing for His Country
Emery Welshman was able to play for Guyana because his parents are from there. In January 2015, he was invited to join the Guyana team. He played his first game for Guyana on February 1, 2015, against Barbados, and he even scored a goal!
In 2019, Emery scored a very important goal for Guyana against Belize. This goal helped Guyana qualify for the CONCACAF Gold Cup for the very first time! The Gold Cup is a big international tournament for teams in North and Central America and the Caribbean. He was part of the final team that played in the Gold Cup. In June 2023, he was again chosen to be part of Guyana's team for the Gold Cup qualification tournament.
