Emilia Romagna Grand Prix facts for kids
The Emilia Romagna Grand Prix (which means "Grand Prix of Emilia-Romagna" in Italian) is an exciting Formula One car race. It takes place at the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Italy. People often call this track "Imola" because it's near the town of Imola. The race gets its name from the Italian region where the circuit is located. This famous track has also hosted other big races before, like the Italian Grand Prix in 1980 and the San Marino Grand Prix from 1981 to 2006.

History of the Race
How the Race Started (2020–2021)
In 2020, the world faced the COVID-19 pandemic. This caused many planned Formula One races to be cancelled. To fill the empty spots, the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix was added to the race calendar. It was meant to be a special, one-time event.
For this race, the usual three-day weekend was changed to just two days. Drivers had only one practice session on Saturday. Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas started from the front (pole position). His teammate, Lewis Hamilton, won the race.
Even though it was supposed to be a one-off, the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix returned in 2021. This was because the pandemic was still affecting races. It took the place of the postponed Chinese Grand Prix. This time, Lewis Hamilton got pole position. But Max Verstappen won the race, which was very exciting because of the rain!
Recent Races (2022–Present)
The Emilia Romagna Grand Prix was held again in 2022. This was its third year in a row. For the first time, it also hosted one of the season's "sprint" races. A sprint race is a shorter race on Saturday that helps decide the starting grid for Sunday's main race.
In early 2022, the race organizers signed a deal to keep the Grand Prix at Imola until 2025. In 2022, Max Verstappen had an amazing race. He achieved a "grand chelem," which means he got pole position, led every lap, set the fastest lap, and won the race! He won at Imola for the second year in a row.
Sadly, the 2023 race was cancelled. Heavy rainfall caused big floods in the Emilia-Romagna region. It was too dangerous to hold the event.
The race returned in 2024. Max Verstappen won again. McLaren driver Lando Norris finished second, and Ferrari's Charles Leclerc came in third.
