The Emilia Romagna Grand Prix was an exciting Formula One car race. It took place at the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Italy. People often called it "Imola" after the town where the track is located.
The race got its name, "Emilia-Romagna," from the Italian region where the circuit is found. This famous track has hosted other big races before. It held the Italian Grand Prix in 1980. Later, it hosted the San Marino Grand Prix from 1981 to 2006.
In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic caused many races to be cancelled. So, Formula One returned to Imola to fill the racing calendar. The Emilia Romagna Grand Prix was held every year since then, except for 2023. That year, the race was cancelled because of severe flooding in the region. The Emilia Romagna Grand Prix had its last race in 2025. It was then replaced by a new race in Madring for the 2026 season.

Race History
The First Races: 2020 and 2021
The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 changed the Formula One schedule a lot. Many races were cancelled, so the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix was added. It was meant to be a one-time event to help make up for the lost races. This race had a special two-day format. There was only one practice session on Saturday, instead of the usual three. Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas started from the front (pole position). His teammate, Lewis Hamilton, won the race.
Even though it was planned as a one-off, the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix returned in 2021. This was because the pandemic was still affecting races. It took place on April 18, replacing the Chinese Grand Prix. Lewis Hamilton again started from pole position. However, Max Verstappen won a very exciting race that was affected by rain.
From 2022 to 2025
The race was on the 2022 calendar for the third year in a row. It also hosted one of the season's three "sprint" races for the first time. A sprint race is a shorter race on Saturday that helps decide the starting grid for Sunday's main race. In early 2022, the race organisers announced a new contract. This meant the Grand Prix would continue at Imola until 2025. Max Verstappen won the 2022 race. He also achieved a "grand chelem" which means he started from pole, led every lap, set the fastest lap, and won the race.
The 2023 race was cancelled. This happened because of very heavy rain and floods caused by Storm Minerva. The 2024 race saw Max Verstappen win again. McLaren's Lando Norris finished second, and Ferrari's Charles Leclerc came in third. The 2025 race was the last one held under the contract. Verstappen won this race too, with the two McLarens of Norris and Oscar Piastri finishing behind him.
The End of the Race
In June 2025, it was announced that Formula One would no longer race at Imola from 2026 onwards. This meant the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix was discontinued. A new street circuit race in Madrid, called the Madring, took its place.
