Lando started his Formula One career with McLaren in 2019, partnering Carlos Sainz Jr.. He qualified eighth in his first race in Australia and finished twelfth. He scored his first F1 points by finishing sixth in Bahrain. He had some tough races with collisions and car issues, leading to retirements in China, Spain, and Canada.
Despite some challenges, Lando showed his speed. He finished sixth in Austria and had three consecutive points finishes in Italy, Singapore, and Russia. He ended his first F1 season in eleventh place in the drivers' championship with 49 points. He often out-qualified his teammate Sainz. McLaren signed him to a new contract to stay with the team until at least 2022.
2020: First Podium Finish

At the first race of the 2020 season in Austria, Lando qualified fourth but started third due to a penalty for another driver. In the final moments of the race, he set the fastest lap, which helped him finish third and claim his first-ever F1 podium. This made him one of the youngest drivers to achieve a podium finish in Formula One history.
He continued to perform well, with six consecutive points finishes. At the Turkish Grand Prix, he started fourteenth due to a penalty but recovered to finish eighth and set the fastest lap. Lando finished fourth in Bahrain and fifth in Abu Dhabi. His strong results, along with those of his teammate Sainz, helped McLaren finish third in the constructors' championship. Lando ended the season ninth in the drivers' championship with 97 points.
2021: First Pole Position
Lando stayed with McLaren for the 2021 season, with Daniel Ricciardo joining as his new teammate. He started the season strong, finishing fourth in Bahrain. At the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, he finished third, earning his second F1 podium. He also secured another podium in Monaco.
At the Austrian Grand Prix, Lando qualified second, just behind Max Verstappen. He finished the race in third place, getting his third podium of the season. At the Italian Grand Prix, Lando finished second behind his teammate Ricciardo, securing McLaren's first one-two finish since 2010.
Lando achieved his first Formula One pole position in Russia during tricky weather conditions. He led most of the race, but a late rain shower meant he had to pit for different tyres, dropping him to seventh. He finished the season strong, scoring points in every remaining race. Lando ended 2021 in sixth place in the World Drivers' Championship, his best result at the time.
2022 Season

In February 2022, Lando signed a new contract with McLaren, keeping him with the team until at least 2025. He scored points in Saudi Arabia and Australia. His only podium of the season came with a third-place finish at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
Despite battling tonsillitis, Lando finished sixth in Monaco and set the fastest lap. He consistently scored points throughout the season, with his best result after Emilia Romagna being a fourth-place finish in Singapore. Lando finished the 2022 season in seventh place in the Drivers' Championship with 122 points.
2023 Season
Lando continued with McLaren in 2023, with rookie Oscar Piastri as his new teammate. The start of the season was challenging for McLaren, with reliability issues and crashes. However, things improved significantly after upgrades were brought to Lando's car at the Austrian Grand Prix. He qualified fourth and finished fourth in the race.
More success came at the British Grand Prix, where Lando qualified second and finished second, holding off Lewis Hamilton. This was McLaren's first podium at Silverstone Circuit since 2010. He then finished second again in Hungary, marking his first consecutive podiums in F1. He accidentally broke Max Verstappen's trophy during the podium celebrations, but it was later replaced.

At the Miami Grand Prix, Lando qualified fifth. He took the lead after other drivers pitted and a safety car helped him keep his position. He held off Max Verstappen to claim his first Grand Prix victory after 110 races. This win tied the record for the most podiums before a first win.
After Miami, Lando achieved five more podiums before the summer break. He finished on the podium in Imola, Canada, and Spain, where he also took pole position. He believed he was a championship rival to Verstappen due to McLaren's improved car.
After the summer break, Lando took pole position at the 2024 Dutch Grand Prix. He lost the lead at the start but reclaimed it and extended his lead to win by 22 seconds. This was his second victory and McLaren's first at that track since 1985. He then took pole position for the Italian Grand Prix, marking his first consecutive poles. He finished third in the race behind his teammate Piastri and Charles Leclerc.

In São Paulo, Lando won the sprint race from second place. He started the main race on pole position, his seventh of the season. However, he had some issues and finished seventh. At the 2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix, Lando finished sixth, which mathematically ended his chances of winning the drivers' championship. In the Qatar sprint, he purposely slowed down to let Piastri win, returning a favor from the São Paulo sprint. In the main race, he received a penalty and finished tenth. In the final race in Abu Dhabi, Lando took pole and won the race, securing McLaren's first constructors' title since 1998.
2025: Title Battle with Piastri
McLaren started the 2025 season as favorites for the championship. Lando took pole position for the first race in Australia and won in wet conditions, taking the championship lead. He finished second in China behind his teammate Piastri. In Japan, he finished second to Verstappen, who closed the championship gap.
Lando increased his lead in Bahrain, finishing third despite a penalty for a false start. He crashed in qualifying for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix but recovered to fourth in the race, falling behind Piastri in the standings. He won the Miami sprint race after a safety car helped him, but finished second to Piastri in the main race. He finished second in Emilia Romagna before winning the Monaco Grand Prix from pole, closing the gap to Piastri to three points. He then finished second to Piastri in Spain.
In Canada, Lando collided with Piastri and had to retire from the race, for which he apologized and received a penalty. He stated he needed to avoid such mistakes to win the title. He then took pole position in Austria by a large margin and held off Piastri to win. He capitalized on a penalty for Piastri to win his first home Grand Prix in Britain.
