Emmi Peltonen (born 29 November 1999) is a talented figure skater from both Finland and the United States. She has won many awards, including the 2017 FBMA Trophy and a silver medal at the 2020 Nordic Championships. Emmi is also a three-time champion in Finland (2016, 2017, 2019). She has placed in the top ten at three European Championships. Emmi even represented Finland at the 2018 Winter Olympics, where she finished in twentieth place.

About Emmi's Life

Emmi Peltonen was born on November 29, 1999, in Nashville, Tennessee, in the United States. She has two older twin brothers, Aleksi and Jesper, and a younger sister named Nelli.

Emmi's parents are from Finland. Her mom, Hanna, used to be a figure skater. Her dad, Ville Peltonen, was a professional ice hockey player. He played for the NHL team, the Nashville Predators. That's why the family lived in the U.S. for a few years. Later, they moved back to Finland. Emmi's grandpa, Esa Peltonen, was also a professional ice hockey player!

Emmi's Skating Journey

Starting Out

Emmi got her first ice skates when she was just two years old. She began learning to skate in 2002. When she was a child, she competed in the United States until 2010.

In the 2011–2012 season, she started competing in international events at a higher level called "advanced novice." She won a gold medal at the 2013 Nordic Championships in the novice category.

Junior Competitions

Emmi started competing at the junior international level in the 2013–2014 season. She earned a junior silver medal at the Finnish Championships. She also won a junior silver medal at the Nordic Championships. In both events, she finished second to another skater named Jenni Saarinen.

Moving to Senior Level

In the 2014–2015 season, Emmi was coached by Virpi Horttana. She made her debut in the ISU Junior Grand Prix (JGP) in France, finishing ninth. She also competed at the senior level at the Finnish Championships, where she placed fourth overall.

For the 2015–2016 season, Emmi trained with different coaches. She made her senior international debut at the 2015 CS Finlandia Trophy, finishing tenth. She later won a junior bronze medal at the Nordic Championships.

Big Wins and European Debuts

In the 2016–2017 season, Emmi trained in California during the summer. She competed in several international events. In December 2016, Emmi won her first senior gold medal at the Finnish Championships. This win helped her join Finland's team for the 2017 European Championships. There, she finished eleventh overall.

Emmi also competed at the 2017 World Championships in Finland. She placed twenty-ninth in the short program.

The Olympic Season

In September 2017, Finland earned a spot for a lady skater at the 2018 Winter Olympics. In December, Emmi won her second national title in Finland.

In January, Emmi placed ninth at the 2018 European Championships in Russia. She was the top Finnish lady at this event. Because of her strong performances, the Finnish Olympic Committee chose Emmi to compete at the Olympics. She finished twentieth in the ladies' event at the 2018 Winter Olympics.

Recent Seasons

Emmi started the 2018–2019 season at the 2018 CS Finlandia Trophy, finishing fifth. She then made her debut in the Grand Prix series at the 2018 Grand Prix of Helsinki, where she placed ninth. She won a silver medal at the Finnish Championships that year. Emmi also finished eighth at the 2019 European Championships. She later competed at the 2019 World Championships, placing twenty-eighth.

In the 2019–2020 season, Emmi won the Finnish national title again. She placed fifth at the European Championships with a new personal best score. She also won a silver medal at the Nordic Championships. The World Championships were cancelled due to the global pandemic.

Emmi continued to compete in the 2020–2021 and 2021–2022 seasons. She won the Open d'Andorra in 2021. She earned a bronze medal at the Finnish championships in 2022 but had to withdraw from the European Championships due to an ankle injury.

In the 2022–2023 season, Emmi won a bronze medal at the Volvo Open Cup. She had to miss some events after getting sick.

For the 2023–2024 season, Emmi finished seventh at two Challenger Series events. She then won a gold medal at the 2023 Trophée Métropole Nice Côte d'Azur. She placed twelfth at the 2024 European Championships.

Emmi began her 2024–2025 season in late November, finishing fifth at the 2024 NRW Trophy.
