Empress is a small village in southern Alberta, Canada. It is located right next to the border between Alberta and Saskatchewan. The village is about 121 kilometers (75 miles) north of Medicine Hat.

Empress got its name in 1913 from Queen Victoria, who was also known as the Empress of India. In the past, it was called the "Hub of the West" because it connected major cities using the Canadian Pacific Railway.

The village sits on the southern bank above the Red Deer River. This is about 9 kilometers (6 miles) northwest of where the Red Deer River joins the South Saskatchewan River. Empress is about 650 meters (2,133 feet) above sea level. You can reach Empress from Buffalo Trail by taking Highway 899 and Highway 562.
