History of Enterprise
The town of Enterprise got its name because of the "enterprising" (meaning clever and determined) plan its first settlers had. They needed a steady supply of water for their farms and for the town to grow. Many of the first settlers came from a nearby town called Hebron, which was later abandoned.
Cattle ranchers did well in the area, but everyone knew they needed more water. So, the settlers decided to build a dam. This was a huge project, and many people thought it was impossible. Some even left the area because they didn't believe it could be done.
However, the remaining settlers kept working on the dam. It took a lot of effort and time, but they finally finished it. The reservoir created by the dam has provided water for the town ever since. A post office opened in Enterprise in 1899.

Enterprise is located on the southern edge of the Great Basin. This is a large area in the western United States where rivers and streams do not flow into an ocean. The city sits at an elevation of about 5,329 feet (1,624 meters) above sea level.

Enterprise is the closest community to a historic place called Mountain Meadows. You can also see a large letter E on a hillside to the southwest of the city. This is a common tradition in many towns in Utah.
