Eon Mountain is a tall peak found right on the border between Alberta and British Columbia in Canada. It sits on the Continental Divide, which separates rivers flowing to different oceans.
This mountain is quite high! It's the 41st tallest peak in Alberta and the 53rd tallest in British Columbia. A person named James Outram gave it the name "Eon Mountain" way back in 1901.

First Climb of Eon Mountain
The very first time someone successfully climbed Eon Mountain was on July 17, 1921. This amazing feat was achieved by Winthrop E. Stone. He was the President of Purdue University at the time.
After reaching the top, Mr. Stone had an accident while coming back down. His wife was waiting for him lower on the mountain. She was later rescued on July 24. A team then went up the mountain to help.
How Eon Mountain Formed
Eon Mountain is made of sedimentary rock. This type of rock forms from layers of sand, mud, and shells that settle at the bottom of ancient seas. Over millions of years, these layers get pressed together and turn into rock.
The rocks of Eon Mountain were formed during very old periods of Earth's history. These include the Precambrian and Jurassic periods. Later, during a time called the Laramide orogeny, huge forces pushed these rocks upwards. This created the mountains we see today.
Weather at Eon Mountain
The weather around Eon Mountain is known as a subarctic climate. This means it has very cold and snowy winters. Summers are usually mild, not too hot.
Temperatures can often drop below -20 degrees Celsius. When you add in the wind, it can feel even colder, sometimes below -30 degrees Celsius! So, it's a very chilly place in winter.
