Era Istrefi (born on July 4, 1994) is a talented singer and songwriter from Kosovo. She grew up in Pristina, the capital city. Era became famous around the world with her hit song "BonBon". This song was very popular and helped her sign with big music companies like Sony Music and Ultra Music.

In 2018, Era Istrefi sang the official song for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. She performed "Live It Up" with Nicky Jam and Will Smith. This exciting performance happened at the closing ceremony of the World Cup in Moscow. Era sings in both Albanian and English. Some of her other well-known songs include "Shumë Pis", "Redrum", and "Nuk E Di". She has also won many awards for her music.

Life and career

Early life and first songs (1994–2014)

Era Istrefi was born on July 4, 1994, in Pristina, Kosovo. Her family is Albanian. Her father, Nezir Istrefi, was a journalist, but he passed away in 2004. Era's mother, Suzana Istrefi, was also a musician in the 1980s and 1990s. Era's older sister, Nora Istrefi, is also a singer.

Era started her music career in 2013. Her first song was "Mani Për Money". She sang in Gheg Albanian, which is a dialect of Albanian, and also used some English words. A few months later, she released another song called "A Po Don?". This song also became popular and had a music video.

Her third song, "E Dehun", was filmed in a church. After this song came out, Era won three Videofest Awards, including "Best New Artist". In 2014, she released a pop song called "13". The music video for "13" was watched almost 200,000 times in just one day on YouTube. In 2016, Era also became an Albanian citizen.

Becoming famous worldwide (2015–present)

Era Istrefi became known all over the world with her song "BonBon". It was released on December 30, 2015, along with its music video. The video was filmed in Brezovica, Kosovo. The song quickly became a huge hit and was shared a lot on social media.

Famous actress Chloë Grace Moretz even showed her support for Era. Many people started calling Era the "Rihanna and Sia of Kosovo". In February 2016, Era signed with big American music labels, Sony Music Entertainment and Ultra Music. She also worked with RCA Records for her first album. Later in June 2016, an English version of "BonBon" was released.

In 2017, Era released new songs. On February 24, she released "Redrum", which featured producer Felix Snow. Then, on September 29, she released "No I Love Yous" with French Montana.

Era started 2018 with a new song called "Origami", featuring DJ Maphorisa. On May 21, it was announced that Era would sing the official song for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. She joined American actor and rapper Will Smith and American singer Nicky Jam. The song, "Live It Up", came out on May 25. Era performed this song with Will Smith and Nicky Jam at the World Cup Final on July 15. Later that summer, she released two more songs: "Prisoner" and "Oh God" (featuring Konshens). She also appeared on albums by Steve Aoki and Jonas Blue.

In 2019, Era worked with the Belgian music group Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike on the song "Selfish". This song became very popular on the Billboard Dance Club Airplay chart. Two months later, she sang with her sister, Nora Istrefi, on the song "Nuk E Di". This was the first time the two sisters worked together on a song. In the same year, Era also released "Sayonara детка" with Russian rapper Элджей. She was also featured on the song "Let's Get Married" by Yellow Claw, which also featured Offset.
