Era Istrefi (born on July 4, 1994) is a talented singer from Kosovo, a country in Europe. She became famous around the world with her hit song "BonBon". This song was very popular and earned many awards.
After her big success, Era Istrefi signed with major music companies like Sony Music and Ultra Music. In 2018, she performed the official song for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. She sang "Live It Up" with Nicky Jam and Will Smith at the closing ceremony of the World Cup in Moscow. Her songs are in both Albanian and English. Some of her well-known songs include "Shumë Pis", "Redrum", "Nuk E Di", and "Live It Up". Era Istrefi has won several awards, such as the European Border Breakers Award.

Life and career
Early life and first successes (1994–2014)
Era Istrefi was born in Pristina, Kosovo, on July 4, 1994. Her family is Albanian. Her father, Nezir Istrefi, was a journalist who passed away in 2004. Her mother, Suzana Istrefi, was a musician in the 1980s and 1990s. She paused her music career after her husband's death. Era's older sister, Nora Istrefi, is also a singer.
In 2013, Era Istrefi started her music career in the Albanian-speaking world. Her first song was "Mani Për Money". She released songs that mixed Albanian with English words. A few months later, she released "A Po Don?", which also became popular with its music video.
Her third song, "E Dehun", had a music video filmed in a church. This song helped Era win three Videofest Awards, including "Best New Artist". In December 2014, she released a pop song called "13". This song was made in the United States. Its music video was watched almost 200,000 times in just one day on YouTube. This led to her being featured in V Magazine. Era received Albanian citizenship in 2016.
Becoming famous worldwide (2015–present)
Era Istrefi became known around the world with her song "BonBon". It was released on December 30, 2015, along with a music video filmed in Brezovica, Kosovo. The song quickly became a huge hit and went viral on social media.
Famous American actress Chloë Grace Moretz showed her support for Era. Many news articles compared Era to famous singers like Rihanna and Sia. In February 2016, Era Istrefi signed with big American music labels, Sony Music Entertainment and Ultra Music. She also worked with RCA Records for her first album. In June 2016, an English version of "BonBon" was released.
On February 24, 2017, Era Istrefi released a new song called "Redrum". It featured producer Felix Snow. Later that year, on September 29, she released "No I Love Yous" with French Montana.
In 2018, Era started the year with a new song, "Origami", featuring South African DJ Maphorisa. On May 21, it was announced that Era Istrefi would join American actor and rapper Will Smith and American singer Nicky Jam. They released the official 2018 FIFA World Cup song on May 25. The song was called "Live It Up". Era performed this song with Smith and Jam on July 15 at the closing ceremony of the World Cup Final.
During the rest of that summer, she released two more songs: "Prisoner" and "Oh God", which featured Konshens. She also appeared on Steve Aoki's album Neon Future III and Jonas Blue's album Blue. Both albums were released on November 19, 2018.
In 2019, Era Istrefi worked with the Belgian music duo Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike on her song "Selfish". This song reached the top of the Billboard Dance Club Airplay chart. Two months later, she collaborated with her sister, Albanian singer Nora Istrefi, on the song "Nuk E Di". This was the first time the two sisters worked together on a song. In the same year, she released "Sayonara детка" with Russian rapper Элджей. She was also featured with American rapper Offset on the song "Let's Get Married" by Dutch duo Yellow Claw.

Era Istrefi describes her music as a mix of different styles. She combines dancehall with hip hop, pop, and electronic sounds. Her music also includes elements of electronic dance, reggae, techno, and alternative. People have often compared her music style and how she looks to singers like Rihanna and Sia.
Influences
Era Istrefi gets ideas from the many types of music she listened to when she was young. She said that reggae and Jamaican music were the main types of music she loved when she was sixteen. She has named Rihanna and Lana Del Rey as her heroes and biggest musical inspirations. A Kosovar Albanian musician named Nexhmije Pagarusha, who was popular in the late 20th century, has also inspired Era. Era also admires Rihanna for always being able to change her style successfully throughout her career.
