About Eunice Reddick
Eunice Reddick grew up in New York City. She went to Hunter College High School. After high school, she studied history and literature at New York University. She earned her bachelor's degree in 1973. Later, she got a master's degree in International Affairs from Columbia University in 1975. This type of degree helps people understand how countries work together. Before becoming a diplomat, she worked for a group called the Africa-America Institute.
Starting a Diplomatic Career
Eunice Reddick began her career in the Foreign Service in 1980. The Foreign Service is a part of the U.S. State Department. It is made up of diplomats who work in other countries. Her first job was in 1981 as a consular officer in Zimbabwe. A consular officer helps U.S. citizens who are living or traveling abroad.
In 1983, she returned to the U.S. State Department. She worked in a department that helped African refugees. From 1986 to 1988, she was a Country Officer for Tanzania and other countries in the Indian Ocean. She also worked as a Senior Watch Officer. This role meant she helped keep track of important events around the world 24 hours a day.
Working in Asia
From 1989 to 1990, Eunice Reddick studied Mandarin Chinese. She learned the language at a school in Taipei, Taiwan. After her studies, she worked in the political section at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing, China.
In 1993, she received a special award called the Dean and Virginia Rusk Fellowship. This allowed her to spend a year at Georgetown University. There, she studied diplomacy, which is the art of dealing with people from other countries.
She then held several important roles at the State Department. She worked in offices that focused on countries like Burma, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam. She also worked with international organizations that provide aid to other countries. From 1997 to 2000, she was the chief of the political section in Taipei, Taiwan. Later, she became the Director of the office for Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei, and Singapore affairs.
Becoming an Ambassador
From 2005 to 2007, Eunice Reddick was the Director of the Office of East African Affairs. This office deals with countries in East Africa. After these roles, President George W. Bush appointed her as an ambassador. She became the U.S. Ambassador to Gabon and São Tomé and Príncipe. She served in these roles until December 2010.
On January 6, 2014, she was nominated to be the next U.S. Ambassador to Niger. She was confirmed for this role on June 30, 2014. She officially started her duties in Niger on July 21, 2014.
Personal Life
Eunice Reddick is married to Marc M. Wall. He was also an ambassador, serving in Chad. They have two children, Gregory and Sarah. Eunice Reddick was born and grew up in New York City.
