Fabio Alain Quartararo (born 20 April 1999) is a French motorcycle racer. He is known by his nickname El Diablo. Fabio races in MotoGP for the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team. In 2021, he became the first French rider to win the MotoGP World Championship.
Before joining Grand Prix racing, Fabio won six Spanish junior titles. He won the CEV Moto3 titles in 2013 and 2014. Because of his early success, many people thought he would achieve great things. He was even compared to the famous champion Marc Márquez.
Fabio set many age records as he moved up through the racing levels. He faced challenges in the Moto3 and Moto2 World Championships. However, he moved to MotoGP with Petronas Yamaha SRT. In 2019, he was named "rookie of the year." He earned seven podium finishes and placed 5th overall.
In 2020, Fabio won three races. For the 2021 season, he joined the Yamaha Factory Racing Team. He replaced the legendary rider Valentino Rossi. In his first year with the factory team, Fabio won the championship. He achieved five victories and ten podiums.

About Fabio Quartararo
Fabio Quartararo was born in Nice, France. His family is originally from Sicily, Italy. His father, Étienne, was also a motorcycle racer. Étienne competed in the 250cc class of the 1986 French motorcycle Grand Prix. In 2022, Fabio was honored as a knight of the Legion of Honour. This is a very important award in France.
Fabio's Racing Journey
Starting His Racing Career
Fabio began racing in France when he was just four years old. He later moved to Spain to compete in the Promovelocidad Cup. This series was for young riders. He won championships in the 50cc class in 2008, 70cc class in 2009, and 80cc class in 2011. In 2012, he won the Mediterranean pre-Moto3 class. This was also the Spanish domestic championship.
Success in CEV Repsol
In 2013, Fabio joined the Moto3 class of the CEV Repsol series. He rode a Honda for Wild Wolf Racing. Fabio finished second in his very first race in the series. He then won his first races at the end of the season. He became the first non-Spanish rider since 2007 to win the title. At just 14 years old, he was the youngest champion ever.
Fabio stayed in the CEV Repsol championship for the 2014 season. He was not old enough to join the World Championship yet. Riders needed to be 16 years old. He continued to ride a Honda and won nine out of eleven races. He finished second in the other two races. Fabio won the championship by a huge 127 points.
Because of his amazing performances, the rules were changed. The champion of the FIM CEV Moto3 championship could now compete in the Moto3 World Championship, no matter their age. This meant Fabio could move up.
Moto3 World Championship
First Season with Estrella Galicia 0,0 (2015)
Fabio joined the Moto3 World Championship in October 2014. He stayed with the Estrella Galicia 0,0 team and rode a Honda. He quickly showed his speed in pre-season tests.
In his first race in Qatar, Fabio qualified well and was in the lead group. He finished seventh, very close to the winner. At the next race in Austin, he got his first podium, finishing second. He earned his first pole position at the Spanish Grand Prix.
At his home race in Le Mans, Fabio took pole position again. He led the race for a while but crashed out. He got another second-place podium at Assen. Later in the season, he fractured his right ankle in a crash. This injury made him miss several races. He finished the season in tenth place with 92 points.
Challenges with Leopard Racing (2016)
For the 2016 season, Fabio moved to Leopard Racing. Many people thought he would win the title. However, the season was tough for him. He struggled to get good results. His best finish was fourth place in Austria. He ended the season in 13th place.
Moto2 World Championship
Joining Pons Racing (2017)
In 2017, Fabio moved up to the Moto2 class with Pons Racing. In his first race in Qatar, he finished seventh. His best result that year was sixth place in San Marino. He finished the season in 13th place overall.
First Grand Prix Win with Speed Up Racing (2018)
For 2018, Fabio switched to the Speed Up Racing team. He achieved his first-ever Grand Prix victory in Catalunya. He followed this with a second-place finish in Assen. The rest of the season was difficult, and he did not get any more podiums. He finished 10th in the championship.
MotoGP World Championship
Rookie Years with Petronas Yamaha SRT (2019–2020)
2019: Rookie of the Year
In 2019, Fabio joined the new Petronas Yamaha SRT team in MotoGP. He rode a factory-spec Yamaha bike. He quickly made history by taking pole position at the Spanish Grand Prix. This made him the youngest-ever pole-sitter in MotoGP. He also got pole positions in Catalunya and Assen.
Fabio finished second in Catalunya and third in Assen. He had a crash in Germany, his first in a MotoGP race. He continued to get podiums, with a third place in Austria and four second-place finishes. He also earned more pole positions in Thailand, Malaysia, and Valencia. Fabio finished his rookie season in 5th place overall, with 7 podiums and 6 pole positions.
2020: First MotoGP Wins
The 2020 season started later than usual. At the first race in Jerez, Fabio qualified on pole and won his first MotoGP race. He repeated this success at the second Jerez race, leading from start to finish. After some tough races, he won his third race in Catalunya, taking back the championship lead.
At the first Aragon race, he crashed and injured his hip. Despite the pain, he qualified on pole. However, he struggled in the race and finished 18th. This was a challenging season, and he finished 8th overall.
Becoming a World Champion with Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP (2021–)
2021: World Champion!
In 2021, Fabio joined the official Yamaha Factory Racing team. He started the season strong with a win in Doha. He then took pole position and won in Portimao. In Jerez, he got pole again but suffered from arm pump problems during the race. He finished 13th.
After surgery, Fabio took pole position in Le Mans. Despite a penalty during the race, he finished third. He continued his pole streak in Mugello and won the race. He dedicated his win to a young Moto3 rider who had passed away. In Catalunya, he took his fifth consecutive pole position. He finished third but received penalties for rule violations, dropping him to sixth.
Fabio continued to perform well, with a third place in Germany and a win in Assen. He also got a third place in Spielberg. He won his fifth race of the season in Silverstone. With two more second-place finishes, he had a big lead in the championship. At the Misano race, his main rival crashed out. This meant Fabio won the World Championship with two races still to go!
2022: Runner-Up Season
The 2022 season started with some struggles for Fabio. He got his only pole position of the year in Mandalika. He won three races before the summer break: Portugal, Catalan, and German Grands Prix.
Fabio finished the season in second place overall. He had 248 points and 8 podiums. He was in a close championship battle with Francesco Bagnaia. Fabio had a big lead after the German Grand Prix, but Bagnaia managed to catch up and win the title.
2023: Three Podiums
Fabio signed a contract to stay with Yamaha until 2024. He earned his first podium of the 2023 season in Austin. He got two more podiums later in the season in India and Indonesia. He finished the season in 10th place in the rider standings.
2024: Continuing with Yamaha
Fabio started the 2024 season with an 11th place finish in Qatar. He continued to race for Yamaha, securing a contract extension for 2025 and 2026. He finished 13th in the championship with 113 points.
